Weirdly 2008-06-22 . chapter 1I'm not in a good state of mind to write a coherent review right now, since I'm punchy from how late it is, but I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed this. I love how you portrayed Aberforth, and how Elphias and Aberforth's relationship developed. I also liked the idea of Dumbledore in a steady relationship, instead of some ** angst about Grindelwald. :p
Aberforth made me laugh, especially when he was talking to the kid, and he just rolled on into "What are you, some kind of child alcoholic?"
Really awesome job. Thank you for writing. |
Bottlebrush 2007-12-17 . chapter 1I didn’t expect to like this, because I don’t like canon Aberforth much. He comes across as mean-spirited and envious. But here he is more grumpy but good-hearted, and he thinks (the purple ribbon). Elphias could have done worse than spend his last days with him. It’s a humorous story but with a serious edge, as in the comical conversation between Aberforth and the boy in the pub which ends with “Be glad you’ve got a sister”. And although Aberforth no longer has a sister, in this story it was thanks to Elphias that he did have a brother. Elphias was the bridge between the brothers, without whom they would have parted irrevocably. I like that idea. Some nice visual images too; I especially like the five goats in their colourful jumpers. Now I suppose Elphias was related to Molly, and they inherited the jumper-knitting gene from some common ancestor.
This story is very much in the spirit of the earlier HP books; a story of friendship and kindness and humour, and making the best of a trying situation. |
CelticHeiressFiona 2007-12-14 . chapter 1Aww. I love this! It is so cute! =] Aberforth and Elphias's relationship is awesome. I especially love the repetition of the whole "Did anyone even ask you to do any of this?" That was cute. Awesome! =] |
