All I can say is wow. You only mentioned this one briefly so I wasn't expecting much, but this was really good. I honestly can't find anything that I didn't like about it. It was short and sweet. I was impressed by the subtlety of the line "He’d picked them that morning from meadows beside the mountain roads, knowing that they were her favorite." I also like the line "He looked at her for a long moment, wishing he was a poet that could express just how much he loved her, then leaned down to kiss her once more." I really got a feel for how much he loved his family and the imagery was really good. Well done!

Nice. Most people tend to forget Dorcas even exists, so it's nice to see someone writing about him.

Awesome! I'm so happy to see this posted already. I've been looking forward to reading this for several reasons, the biggest of them being that Dorcas is an ignored character, and he (and Natalie) need some love!

[She adjusted her hold on a large basket of laundry and flipped long brown hair over one shoulder. Disheveled and sleepy, with a smattering of flour on one cheek, she was the loveliest thing he had ever seen.]

I love lines like that. They make me just SMILE. Imagine being away from your family for almost an entire year... She could be missing an arm and have a scar like Vaida, and he would probably be thinking she looked lovely, regardless.

[This was why he had fought so hard to return, he knew.]

That line was especially wonderful, too. This little 'fic make me actually tear up a bit... Honestly, it did. Dorcas is a character that I could never relate with, but he really is a good man, and it's unfortunate that he does not get any love from other FE 'ficcers.

This could actually be listed under Family/Romance, if you wanted to do so. Dorcas and Natalie are so sweet with each other. I like that you managed to keep the story short and simple, but you conveyed plenty of emotion to make up for a lack of length. Seeing his wife and children after so long would be enough to make any man like Dorcas happy and complete again.

I'll be looking forward to the other 'fics in your "New Day" series, for sure. You've already won me over with this one, and honestly, I think it deserves a favorite. Your writing is, as always, superb.
