Alex 2008-03-17 . chapter 1 Germany's Mardi Gras? *grin* I've never heard that one for Karneval (carnival). Dann musst du in einer der Hochburgen sitzen um derart "betroffen" zu sein... Rheinland, Mainz, Ruhrgebiet?
I'm rarely a fan of fictional kids - they're often nauseatingly cute, behave, speak and narrate (if it's from their POV) completely inappropriate for their supposed age and so on.
But this one? Brilliant! I truly think I've never read such an absolutely believable, gorgeously written, fitting kid-voice in my decade of fanfic-experience, spanning various fandoms. And I've read a few very well written ones. And you've captured House's special brand of clicking with children: his odd mix of merciless honesty, toned down abrasiveness, clowning around, non-patronizing interaction, seemingly despite himself gentleness and subtle tenderness, from the show so well!
And his playing the Cardiology-head. Wow! Not many people remember that House is quite socially adept, that he can be polite and very charming - if he WANTS to be. That more often than not he CHOOSES to eschew social norms and interactions, not that he doesn't follow them out of genuine ignorance or inability...
And her buying it initially, then noticing the difference in symptoms after the OP and wising up to his MO (checking on his reputation in the medical circles inbetween?) - and then still being won over by his handling and her trust in his skills when presenting an "insane" diagnosis. That was wonderful to read and very fitting in portraying this weird kind of trust that even adversaries often can't seem to help having in House's medical skills, sometimes clearly against their will and common sense.
I enjoyed all parts so far - but this was truly stunning imo. Please insert you favorite superlative among reader compliments here! I'm sure I'd echo it gladly ^_^ |
