Nuances are very important, think clearly about word choice before you decide. Also, there was a verb tense issue with this one. You wrote, "Yumi is standing.. her mouth gaped open."

Correct way, "Yumi is standing in the middle of the dance floor, her lips contorting into a confused gape."

That was present tense, if it was past it would be:

"Yumi STOOD in the middle of the dance floor, her lips CONTORTED into a confused gape."

Anyway.. something like that. I know it differs from what you wrote, but it's just an example of correct verb tense. You primarily used present tense in this fic, I prefer using past tense for most things.
