2008-10-02 . chapter 14
HA! Finally got the %#!! review button to work! Ok, so here are my thoughts (yes, I do occasionally think):

The sex banter between John and Dean was great and very believable. John has always thought of Dean as being older, more of a comrade in arms than a kid. So I can totally see that conversation happening. Besides, some families are more open about that stuff than others. My mom bough me my first X video for my 18th birthday. *blink, blink* Yeah, real pistol my mom. And Dean's reaction to John's revelation of how he was conceived? ROTF!

Loved all the DA references. Banana Republic good guy? LOL I'm so used to thinking of Michael Weatherly as DiNozzo from NCIS, that kind of threw me, but he was kind of like that huh?

Yes, Sammy playing the trusty geek boy sidekick saves the day and cracks the case. Dean being possessed by Jack, ops, I mean Jackson. Great twist. And of course Sam would feel pity for the ghost and want to give him a chance to move on peacefully. And then feel guilty when things turned ugly. But it all worked out in the end and all three Winchester men even got one night of being a normal family. Bravo.

The little touches were great. Like the boys speaking in unison, Dean calling Sam Sammy, him asking Sam if *he* was ok. "Dean could fall off a ten-story building and on his way down he'd be checking on me. Once he splat on the concrete, his first words in the afterlife would be 'How's Sammy?'" Too true. Dean wanting to take a hot shower after being possessed because he felt dirty and ashamed. Great insight (I seem to be saying that a lot these days. lol) Then there was John's apology. God I loved that. And Dean going on and on about how soap actors could never play action heroes! Hahahaha

The only thing I had a problem believing was John not knowing who Vinnie Barabarino was. I mean, he was in his twenties in the 70's, and even if he didn't watch "Welcome Back Kotter" I'm sure he would have heard about it in passing. That's it. That's my only complaint.

In case you can't tell, I loved this story. *Two thumbs up*

"Against his own conscience and empathy for the actual innocents on that fateful voyage he soon found himself rooting for the iceberg, wishing it could have been a hell of a lot bigger and more deadly, at least big enough to sink this movie. "
~

HAHAHA Got to say, I thought the same thing when I saw Titanic. Me: "For crying out loud, just sink already!"

Lovin' it so far. See? I told you I'd leave feedback! :P

Well, this "Last Act" had me practically rolling on the floor with laughter. I mean, really, Dean's line: “Any actor who does a soap is just an over-emoting drama queen. They’ll never be convincing fighting evil. I mean, c’mon, Sammy! No soap actor is ever gonna be an action hero, period! They just don’t have it in ‘em.” - and to think that's where I loved Jensen first - "EmoEric" on "Days". No, Dean, no soap actor could ever be convincing fighting evil :) "Those guys on soaps are just for show… pretty boys with nothin’ under the hood.” - especially the ones who win the "Best New Actor" award. LOL.

I enjoyed Sam's time with John in the movie theatre, trying to bond a little without Dean there - find some common ground. It really is sad that Sam has so little to share with his father and that he is uncomfortable with him. Even John recognizes the wonderful bond the brothers have and has to admit that it was all Dean's doing.

Loved that Dean came back to watch "Face/Off" with John and Sammy, but wondered what happened to Shelly. How funny is it that both Sam and John ask him about the girl and Dean just says that he wanted to spend time with his family. Absolutely heard JDM's voice when John said "How gullible do you think I am?” :)

Ah, and then the truth about Shelly wanting to see "Titanic" again! Oh, Dean, can't suck it up one more time... Apparently, Dean's getting his "sure thing" anyway. (Speaking of which, that's a great John Cusack movie!)

Great end to a wonderful, engaging story. It was fun to see the boys in their teens - being "all boy" and "all brothers". Thanks for sharing this with us. Until next time...

Heh heh heh... I can't believe Dean's still going to 'get it on' with Shelly despite refusing to go see Titanic with her! He's such a floozy!

Loved the conversation about soap actors and how they never make good action heroes... snigger...

That was a really good ending to a thoroughly entertaining story - certainly not your run of the mill hunt for the Teen!chesters!

I loved your story like always, especially the ending was most satisfying. Sorry I could not review per chapter but I hope you won't mind my saying that I found 14 year old Sammy to be a bit OOC.
I can't imagine him being that introspective about the inner workings of Dean's mind then when he seems so out of it in his current age.

I'll admit you had me wondering there for a moment where the conversation between the brothers was headed and why, but than I finally got it. You were making fun of the fact that Jensen had been on a soap too like Sarah and they both have/had action series. It took a bit, but I finally got it.
I like that the Winchesters went to the movies together. I will admit for a moment I was a little upset with Dean for giving up time with his father and brother for a girl. You do like to write him as a ladies man. I know you tried to explain all that in the story about his one night stands.
So I did smile when Dean appeared for opening credits. Though it was nice that John and Sam shared some time together talking.
I can see why Dean didn't go to the movie with Shelly, he would never want to watch "Titanic" again.
I love that you shared another story with us. Always enjoy reading them.
Until next time, take care.

I really liked the way the boys were just being true brothers at the beginning and end of the chapter - the wrestling, teasing and Dean giving Sammy a hard time - just like he does today :).

You know, I never know how to take John. On the one hand, he seems to realize what this life has done to his boys, putting them in danger, but he never changes his reactions to them. He's critical and hard-lined. He still takes Dean's word at how he's feeling - never truly looking beneath the surface. How can he not see what we do - that Dean always masks his true feelings? It's really sad to see how much Dean wants approval from his father, but never feels he's done well enough to get it. Still, I guess a late apology from John is better than none.

Enjoyed the discussion of which movie to see - my vote is "Face/Off", although I must admit to enjoying "Con Air" as well. Of course Dean would shy away from a movie involving a plane :). Poor Dean.

OK, so tell me that were going to see our young Dean in his attempts to woo the fair maiden next. I'll look forward to that...

I'm glad that the brothers had some time to themselves before John returned. Sam didn't need to worry about Dean being mad at him, Dean was proud of his little brother.
I could see John making a stupid statement like, "You know, Dean, if you'da opened up a little about how you were feeling when this thing possessed you instead of just whining about the movie then maybe we could've figured this out."
John wonders why Sam and him don't always get along. When John's words hurt Dean, Sam would be 'a fierce warrior ready to protect his comrade against all peril, taking on his dad in another nasty Winchester brawl.'
But at least John is right, '...brothers, always protecting each other. At least I did that right...somehow.'
I guess I should believe how long it took John to tell apologize to Dean about this hunt. He always had trouble seeing Dean and telling him how he felt, yet did finally in "IMTOD". Dean needed to hear his father say this time everything was alright.
Nice moment at the end as the Winchesters decide on a movie. I can see why Dean chose not to see "Con Air" because of the airplane, and maybe he'll like "Face/Off", though truthfully, Dean will just enjoy having his family doing something togather other than hunting.
Thanks for the update.
Take care.

"...Hell, that’s true enough. Never have to worry about Dean..." Hmm, if only John knew how wrong he was... Story of Dean's life really.

That was a great chapter - flipping over from angst to comedy to film critique in the space of a few minutes! I liked how you wrote John here - realising he's messed his kids up, struggling to understand them, but loving them enough to try. I daresay he was often distant and unknowable to them, but not all the time.

Good job!

Another nice chapter. You did a great job showing us how Dean would be affected by a possession - feeling embarrassed, dirty, out of control, scared. I'm glad that he thought about his responses to Sammy before he talked to him. Let's face it, Dean can be quite harsh when he reacts in anger. Loved the "penance" he gave to Sammy - sounds like he knows his little brother pretty well ;)

Really liked this thought from Dean: "Maybe this hunt was ultimately completed by his brother, but together they’d finished it. Together… damn, that sounds good. I can live with that." And thus the true beginning of the brothers hunting "together". Oh boys, we love you so.

Looking forward to the rest of the story. Until next time...

2008-03-30 . chapter 12
"...Why didn’t you call me Sammy?" Aww! Poor Sam! I loved how you had him thinking Dean was angry at him when he dashed off to the shower, but in actuality he was just trying to get himself together to reassure Sam he was okay, trying to find "...who he needed to be..." in order to make Sam see it was all okay.

Damn, these boys are complicated - even as teenagers!

Oh, and you're right. Who doesn't love the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man?
