This is well written but Remus feels too mature to me for age 10 here, even considering what he has been through. But it could also just be that it has been too long since I was 10. One of my friends has a son this age and he is very bright but his interests are different. There is a great deal to like here though. The tales of Remus first displaying magic and his strong abilities even then plus I especially like that he isn't moping about his lycanthropy. Young Remus is still hopeful and wants to be safe and useful, much like Professor Lupin later.
