Not a big fan of hurt people. Still, this is well written, and poor Brendan seems in-character. A good read - ever thought of a follow-up? It'd be nice if he gets to see her later...

I enjoyed this story and thought it was cute how Brendan started by simply trying to win the nurse over and then realized how true the words were...

I also thought you made an interesting point on how Freya would feel when she woke up from being unconcious. It would be harder for her to keep her mental control.
