abuseSomeone recommended this story on Seel'vor's group and when I saw who had written it figured I had read it. Wrong. But I'm glad I took the time to read this little tale because it is one good go, that's for sure. There's one similar by Ten Toes where all the Muggle-born/mixed-blood people leave Britain and promise not to return until there are no more purebloods alive. It takes a long time of course, but eventually they all die. However, by then the others are so entrenched in where they are they choose not to return. So there are no magicals left in Britain at all, and I can see your story having the same ending, more or less. The purebloods will have their way, but it will be a Pyhrric victory. There will be nothing left to rule.

Your story has the charm of building a Heinlein type of society on the island which is quite fun to read about. Gotta love the ending with Luna and the Honey. You've done an excellent job for the most part, though I though Harry could have gone into more detail, perhaps the story being told in flashbacks. However, when one wants to keep the story relatively short, as I assume you did, the method you used was well up to the task. It conveys much the same as all the detail would. I, for one, would love to see a sequel to this set about 200 years in the future. That would be fun.

As always, I quite enjoyed your story and now have to go look at what else of yours I haven't read yet. Keep up the good work.

abuseA well told story. Harry and his group of friends have isolated themselves and left the rest of wizarding Britain to rot. I can see that. Most of wizarding Britain has earned it's death many times over. My question is, what about the Muggles in Britain. They had nothing to do with Voldemort's rise. While they are now aware of the magicals, they are still at a severe disadvantage. They may well win the war, but it might be a Pyhrric victory.

Actually, it was a brilliant plan...even with the 'Die Hard' aspect. After all, It's working for Bush and his friends in Iraq.

Well done, Sez I!...Alorkin

abuseAnother interesting oneshot. Nice to see you've still got it. One nitpick, though: One of the kid's mothers died in childbirth. I realize that 'childbirth death' is a useful staple excuse for an author to use to kill of someone's mother in a story, but it doesn't quite make as much sense here. With healing magic and potions, why should any mother need to die in childbirth?

abuseIt does make a lot of sense that it wasn't really Dumbledore.

So far, I've enjoyed all the stories in this collection.

abuseThe last two chapters are absolutely brillant. Not that your other previous chapters or stories are great too! You present a wonderfully refreshing approach to commonsense that is cutting, jaded, and obvious, but not in a bad way. Your explanations or takes on commonsense solutions to the loopholes of logic in the HP universe are like the backtracking of a good mystery, or an episode of Mythbusters or other similar quirky educational based shows, or even the neat explanations from an episode of MacGuyver, just enough how to, to make it interesting, believable, and the hero or author look brilliant! Stephen King did this with The Shawshank Redemption. Jbern writes like this too! There are a couple of other writers on this site I'm following that are of similar ilk and I love almost all you writers' stories. Makes me wish I could do more than dirty immature parodies of songs...or bad thesis papers...oh well at least I can read your stories!

Cheers!

abuseInteresting idea but you're wrong! The war was started by Spanish wizards, who controlled some dark British wizards.

The Spaniards figured that that gold was stolen from them, only a few wizarding generations ago, and was rightfully theirs. ;-)

Also, plenty of plot holes were hand-waved over: Island fever, relationship jealousy, greed with that much wealth around, etc.

You also mentioned that Voldy got the muggles involved. In reality, that means that Voldy is toast and wizards would be toast too unless a Wizarding World War crushed the Dark bastards and convinced the muggles that wizards were people too and not necessarily evil.

Harry's island would not be safe from wizard-aware, determined muggles.

abuseInteresting chapter. I liked the idea of the causes behind the war, but you should know better than to base genetics off a Star Trek (TNG) episode. Idiot ST writers know next to nothing about science in general, and biology in particular.

abuseI know that you don't think this merits a full story, but It would be a beautifully chilling piece if you did write it.

The revolution/larceny connection is brilliant, and I think that Harry trying to convince important people of his findings, the flight to France, the pressures and difficulties of creating the new society on the island (sort of Moses leading the Israelites: personalities clashing, and people disagreeing about what was wrong with the British wizarding world) would make fascinating reading.

At any rate, great idea and great snippet!

abuseSimply marvelous! If only JKR had done half the things you've written, I suppose there would have been no more than 1-2 books! Good for literature, bad for common sense!

You have a keen eye for the vagaries of human interaction and a wonderfully cynical, yet witty, way of displaying them for our entertainment!
