Unfortunately, Dr. Chandra's instructions to HAL set up the same situation as in the film -- that is, HAL was told to hide something, yet his programming forces him to accurately report all information without hiding or altering it, and so the only solution was to kill all astronauts on board. I look forward to seeing the next chapter.
