That was wonderful. Dark and tragic--I especially liked that last line, about Madeleine having to break the bones...It made me visibly shudder. I bet if this had occurred Cosette would be a changed young lady when she were older, hardly as carefree and fluttery as she is in the book. This was really well written, too. Quite like Hugo himself, and at first I wondered if it were an excerpt from the book you used as an opening. I'll definitely be checking out your other works and--Oh God! I just opened your profile; you've got a freaking library there! Seems like I'll have something to do while I put off homework now!

I'm sorry, I know you don't like cursing, but this is SO creepily excellent that for a moment, I didn't know what else to say. I can't believe how perfect this is, in both large ways and small ones. The tragedy of Fantine not recognizing Cosette. The idea of Cosette only being able to connect with her mother after she's dead. Cosette's mundane reactions to her mother's bloodstains ("Terrible to clean"). The horror of that last image. *shudder*

Just unbelievable. I'm really at a loss, except to say that this is crazy good, unbelievably apt, and fittingly tragic. Hugo would be proud.

Omigod. That was amazing on so many levels. I mean, I knew it was going to be sad (duh, Tragedy/Drama genre), but the ending totally shocked me. Poor Cosette! And I couldn't help but be a little mad at Fantine for the things she shouted at the poor creature, but then again she was sick and I always pictured Cosette looking a little bit like Gollum when Valjean finds her.

Despite the morbidness (is that a word?), I totally loved it! Awesome work!

That was an unexpected ending. It was so Romeo-and-Juliet stlye tragic. Aww... but Cosette was sweet. And I felt bad for Fantine.

All in all, an awesome story. It was pretty believable, and well-written. Nice job!

Brr. Morbid. But yes, I think this is what would likely happen if Fantine and Cosette met again at that point. Not the happy reunion we wish for eh?

Aw, so sad! Wah! And realistic, I suppose. On the one hand, it was good that Cosette was able to see her mother again (and Fantine her daughter maybe? I couldn't quite tell), but on the other, for that to be the last way you see a loved one . . . *tear*. Very well written, though. Just very, very sad.

Hehe, I think you caught a bit of the Shoujo Cosette syndrome with Cosette being blonde. Although it could have been possible, since many people who are born with blond hair end up having brown hair.
