 Kitten Kisses 2008-02-17 . chapter 1Holy-!
I wish I had more to say. I really do. This piece is one of a kind, to be certain. And even though it sounds dark and almost abusive in its tone...it sounds right. It seems to really fit Raven's character. Raven has always struck me as the type of guy who would be anything but religious, which is funny, seeing as how he's friends with Lucius. Their relationship is a twisted one.
Raven wants to kill, to seek revenge, and Lucius is so peaceful and doesn't want to see Raven do such a thing. And I'm sure that Lucius has more than just one simple reason. I think, if Raven had gone through and killed Hector, (or Uther) it would have driven him so far down into the darkness, even Lucius with his kind heart would be out of reach, unable to aid or assist him in any way.
[Dine on uncooked meat and tepid wine. On spoons and forks and shards of glass. Wet earthen graves and wooden crosses. Dine on my life, my pain.]
That was my favorite part. Definitely.
I mean, it just sounds awesome. Why can't I write like that? Argh! The way the words sound together is just awesome. Great. Fantastic! And even though this is my own (probably annoying; irritating) way of interpreting this, this is what I think of when I read that part.
I see Lucius, and I see his views of the world; I see his hopes and dreams. I see his life. The things he's gone through, the trials and tribulations he's overcome. I see his illness, his ability and desire to help those in need. I see his longing to see humanity in a better position (both religiously and otherwise).
And then I see Raven, who has seen death and destruction. Who has seen the graveyards, the loss of innocent lives, the hopes and dreams of those who have already died die along with them as their blood taints Mother Earth. And I can almost see how Raven might feel when he sees Lucius; when he looks at a man who still dares to hope and dream, despite the fact that he knows that those hopes and those dreams can die just as easily as his friend can.
Damn, I'm getting deep today, aren't I? I never shut up.
So now for this Bible scripture, in case you missed it when I posted it in my journal. I mean, I don't know if you're religious or anything, but this scripture seems to fit what I just said, and it's one of my sister's favorites.
And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh. Come now, therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams. ((Genesis 37: 19-20))
Dreams are so very easily dashed because of circumstance and crushed beneath the weight of the world, no? To me, a man as down-to-earth as Raven would have a lot of trouble grasping the point of fruitless dreaming and praying. After all, he has seen the state of his world, and in his eyes, no amount of praying or hoping will make things right again.
(Okay, I'm shutting up now. I swear it.)
Wonderful work! This was truly a thought-provoking piece. And it was really nice to see a piece of Fire Emblem work by you! And a friendship piece, no less! I'll have to add this to my Friendship 'fic archive, hehe.
