I meant to review this when I first read it, but I seemed to have forgotten.

There are too few Rufus stories out there, and I adore Rufus and Alicia both. Hell, there are just too few VP: Silmeria fics out there. It's a shame to, considering how well developed the characters were when compared to most games.

As ever, beautiful imagery, and I liked the use of Freya. Poor, lonely Rufus. That little elf/god never seems to catch a break.

So bitter, so painful, but also so deep it draws you in until you are lost in the emotions running through this fic. Rufus even, briefly, understood how Lezard felt, and so *we* understand Lezard well enough to sympathize with him too for a moment--now, that takes some skilled writing. Very good. Also kinda depressing. Are you gonna write more? I liked your involvement of Freya and especially the under-characterized-in-the-game Silmeria.

This story left me feeling just as broken as poor Rufus and Silmeria. I just can't stand it when it seems like there is no hope in the end, but I guess the hope here is that Rufus saves Midgard in return for giving up Alicia and his very humanity. I liked Silmeria's involvement too. Even though at the end Alicia reunited with Silmeria, when their souls scattered, then Silmeria would lose her as well. The fact that she was the one who actually reached out to grab Alicia and not Rufus was interesting. I think that Alicia's soul might persist even after being merged contrary to Brahms's warning since she did manage to remember her ring-kissing move and all, but even Argrim who retained the same name and profession ended up siding with Lenneth and not Hrist when he was reborn. I like to think that there is some hope for all of them to work out a happy future--what with history being changed and all, but this slightly more depressing ending is a nice change of pace from all of my own ridiculously happy fanfiction. Anyway, I hope that you'll write more fics for this fandom, and thanks for posting at glance_reviver!
