This was...excellent. I quite enjoyed it. I never really considered a Matt/Near pairing before, but, hey...I liked it. You've got a good grasp of Near's character. The present-tense was well done; I didn't see any grammatical errors of note, etc, etc...

The ending made me laugh, as did the beginning of the last chapter: "This has been a story about people waking up in hospitals..." Now I have to go read some of the books that you've referenced. Gah! Pox and murrain, but that's going to take a while...

Nice...it's been a while since I've read fanfiction. These characters can be difficult to write because they think so far ahead, but that's part of why we love them, ne? The thought of writing them intimidates me, though. I tip my hat to you.

So it's 9:46 am and I haven't actually slept yet so this might not be entirely coherent, but here goes: you are very likely the best Death Note fanfic author I've read so far. I like that you aren't trying to recreate the series, either literally or figuratively. Your fic has a completely different feeling, which is appropriate, given that you are dealing with the story of 'N' and not 'L'. Also, I'm a big Near fan and it irritates me how people always push him toward one extreme or another or don't even try. You've come the closest to the Near in the actual series (or at least my conception of him). He's rational and unemotional without being cold, lacks social skills without being a douche, is sensitive without being a baby, has that economical way of speaking... You also managed to flesh out Matt very well, which I appreciate. Too many people just go 'video games personality' and leave it at that. Thanks for actually taking some time to develop him. So good job and thanks so much for the story. (Also, I like your choice of authors.)

You just made me teary eyed, its good to imagine that Matt and Near could have gone on without Mello, and you made this pairing work in a way I've never see before. Congratulations on writing a very beautiful and touching fic.

I'd been pouring over the idea of writing a fanfic about Matt having survived while Mello didn't and the aftermath of such an event, and was honestly rather sad at first when I was directed to your fic here on but it's really SO GOOD, I'm glad that you did it as well as you have! The ending made me go all a-flutter with girliness [at the witty presentation more so than the actual line, even] and I really did love how everything was presented so believably and naturally in little vignette bites like this! The way that you tied-in the names of different famous writers and their works throughout, and the way that all of these little details came together in the end, was REALLY very clever and well executed. Well characterized, beautifully written and a great read overall, thank you for taking the job off my hands and doing it SO WELL!

wow, that was flat out amazing. i've never read anything so in depth on this website except maybe one or two stories. there were small areas that i couldn't understand a thing but the moments i could understand were great. another great thing is the story got better and better. that was so awesome, keep it up:)

Aw it's over. Great finishing chapter...one of the best I’ve read in fact. I commend you for not turning it into a screw fest as well (not that I have anything against stories that end that way)...you kept the balance the of tying up ends and final character development really well and I particularly enjoyed the last two sections (And Near swearing at the start.)

I'm not a near/matt fan at all, but this was just AMAZING. I love the writing style, and the framing, and the references to all my favorite authors. _ It just all flows so well together, and the characterization is awesome - I might actually like Near a bit now.

Anyways, very very nicely done. I like the characterization of both of the main character, you actually made the characters dynamic, alive and have a true personality. The characters weren't flat like many authors write their stories. I really felt like Near and Matt could have existed. Congratulations on finishing this nice masterpiece.
