Martial Arts Master 2008-03-08 . chapter 8Very well, here is a character for your consideration:
Name: Russell Smythe
Position: Becomes a paralegal to Phoenix alongside Maya (you DID say in your note you needed another ally for Phoenix and Maya)
Looks: Black-haired, hairstyle arranged in a slicked-back, shoulder-length style, aged 26, commonly dresses in casual clothing even when he goes to work (he's extremely good at his job, better than the vast majority; that is the only reason he has not been fired for wearing a T-shirt and jogging pants to work), boyish-but-pretty-looking face, silver-gray eyes resembling the moon, lean but not muscular (as in, he obviously spends a great deal of time jogging, but none in the weight room, meaning he has a limber and trim body but almost no "bulk" to speak of)
Everything else: He talks in a quiet, silky, whispery voice; that sometimes works against him because he has to shout louder than most people would if he's in a crowd. He always seems thoughtful and meditative; he reads a LOT of books all the time. He also spends a great deal more time looking at his surroundings more than usual, after all, he reasons, not many people truly appreciate the world we live in. He is considered eccentric and weird by most people who know him, but he IS great at doing paralegal research (he is very comfortable in libraries and always gets the job done), so he's always been allowed to keep his job anyway. Also, the "weird and eccentric" part comes from his detractors. His friends and people who like him call him "quiet and friendly and easy to talk to, confide in, and get along with." He loves gentle breezes and will usually start GIGGLING to himself if he feels them, causing people to look at him funny.
Russell mostly takes the job with Phoenix and Maya because upon meeting Pearl, he becomes attached to her (in a friendly way of course, he's 26 and she's a little kid for crying out loud!). He frequently volunteers to play with her when she's bored and he teaches her about things she would otherwise be naive about, also protecting her from any sort of danger. This is because Pearl's energetic, enthusiastic, and warmhearted personality reminds him of his little sister back when he and his little sister were both small children; however, he and his little sister are grown up now, and his little sister is now in jail (and Russell thinks wrongfully so, although he obviously doesn't know for sure) because, accused of a murder, she had the misfortune of her case being tried by a ruthless prosecutor who would do anything to win. Russell therefore has an irrational PHOBIA of prosecutors; he considers them all to be vicious sharks ready to devour those who get in their way, even if they have to hurt (e.g. lock up) innocent people to do it (this means he finds people like Edgeworth and Franziska von Karma distasteful, although he is courteous and polite to their faces). In contrast, since Phoenix and Maya are defense attorneys and not prosecutors, Russell sees them as heroes ensuring that the innocent go free, and his belief that Phoenix Wright is a completely virtuous man is only made STRONGER once he learns that every client Phoenix has ever defended except for Matt Enguarde turned out to be innocent after all.
I hope this character suits your needs, and happy writing! |
