CHILLS. That was easily the best Genie-centric thing I've ever read. I love how you take the character from the movie and add so much to him, give him layers that you don't really see in the movie, expose the darker side of the genie we all love.

I laughed, I (almost) cried, and I definitely felt the magic.

I love the way you wrote the Genie in this! Very, very well thought out and executed. I enjoyed reading it.

I love this story. It's not often that I'll read something under 20,0 words (as most are, quite frankly, crap), but this one touched my heart. Honey, that happens very rarely for me. Very few stories make me cry or react emotionally in any way, but this one had me bawling like a baby. Fabulous job!

I loved this fic so much. It really brought home the messages in the story of Aladdin. I loved Genie and his narration. And the last paragraph was just brilliant. :D Excellent fic! :D

Wow.
Gosh, but this kinda story is not one I come across often. I've never seen Genie's character so deeply explored...some of the things I've read here are things I never even thought of, but then it makes perfect sense to see it. The clarity with which you write is unbelievable and I really hope that you write more stuff in the future. There really aren't any adequate words in my vocabulary to describe just how amazingly phenomenal, nearly cosmic (;) this story really is and I can't wait to read more of your stories. I already read Antiphony, and I hope that you can start on the sequel you said you were going to write for that in the near future. Cya later!

Dear Cantare:

When I can repeat with every passing paragraph that "this doesn't sound like the Genie I know" and still read on to the end, you know you've got something special. It wasn't just the glimpse into what the movie looked like from a different perspective (though you answered that basic fan-fictional challenge as well as anybody I've ever seen); it was the little touches, like "Cave-certified DITR" and the line about the fruit. It was a glorious experience, and I am grateful to you for it.

(Though the fact remains that it really wasn't the Genie I know. I'm not blaming you for that; the Genie's a hard character to stay in for 5,509 words. I merely observe that putting an essentially serious character through the series of experiences that the Genie went through in "Aladdin" is not quite the same thing as showing us the hidden side of the Genie himself.)

Sincerely,
Qoheleth

That was just incredible. Beautiful. I was crying by the end of it and...and yeah, I'm inspired. This was the most wonderful little fic I have ever read. Thank you so much for sharing it. I know I'll think of this story whenever I watch Aladdin from now on.

Thanks again!

Wow. I'm glad I finally read this. Genie seems idiotic sometimes, but any being who has lived that long couldn't be stupid. I really believed this could be Genie's memoir.

Hey, this was a really great ficlet! I loved reading it. The concept was awesome, and it was very well-written! I thought you really got inside Genie's head well. Great fic!

Beautiful. I love how three dimensional and realistic you made him. You really captred the inner turmiol we get a small glimse of in the move (like in the scene where Aladdin states he can't free him, and when he doesn't want to grant Jafar's wish). I absolutely loved this story! Great job!

Are you kidding?? What constructive criticism could anyone possibly give for a story as amazing as this?

It was perfect. :3

Everything – the grammar, the structure, the genie…

Epic.

Purely epic.

I like the spin you gave on it; I always thought that Genie should have been more cynical, and this allows me to see it as though he were all alone.

This one piece of writing truly makes me happy in ways that I can’t describe.

This could not have been written any better.
That IS jinni- no questions asked. This story embodies his character in a remarkably exact way! And this is the first time I've really seen the "thoughts during the movie" story get pulled off so well! KUDOS to you! EXCELLENT JOB!

That was awesome! I was looking for a good Genie fic, and I found an amazing one. When reading, I could see the jazzy Robin Williams personality - the "overdrive personality," you called it, and what an apt name - but there was also a powerful being who had been enslaved for thousands upon thousands of years. It was great.
