You have an incredible handle on character depiction; not just making them real but by giving the reader a connect, an understanding of motivations without gibberish rambling. Impressive and I'm jealous.

Anyway, I think the way you've written this is amazing. Normally I really don't like blocks of text describing what the character is feeling without any dialogue but this had me hooked from the beginning! You are a really good author!
