Whoa. Very chilling and dark.

It was almost . . . too dark. Is that possible? No, now that I think about it, it probably isn't. I'm just so used to reading fluffed up versions of the Joker/Harley relationship, that when I read this, I was really knocked off my lemon rocker. (That makes sense in my mind, I hope it does in yours.) I've read a lot of takes on the final moments of Joker and Harley, and when Harley dies, the Joker cries. It's always the same ending, but with this . . . it's totally different. It's as if the Joker doesn't even care. It's like . . . he's built such a barricade around himself and shielded his emotions from everyone else for so long that he CAN'T even care anymore - even if he wanted to.

I hate/love how the Joker didn't even want to recognize Harley by the time he was done doing whatever it is he was doing to her. It's so dark - so JOKER. It was crazy. And it was terrifying that he could be so cold. But very in character, and that's what I appreciated the most about this.

I can't but help wonder if the Joker killed Harley because he can't stand the fact that he may be falling in "love" with her or if he killed her because he can't feel the "love" that Harley feels towards him. I don't know. I'll admit this was a bit confusing to read, and I still don't know exactly everything that went down, but I think that's why I like it so much. I love the anonymity and the suspense of not quite knowing.

I like it! It's very interestig. Haunting and sick and quite evocative of the strange romance they have. I like that we don't quite know what's going on, if you're saying he does love her and that's why he kills her, or he kills her because he might or because he can't or because he's just grown tired of the game. I like that he lights a cigar in her honour over her corpse, so very Joker.
