I found the comment "he was abused as a child, because the way he acts around strangers reminds you of injured animals." sort of strange, because I really don't see Abe as a fidgety person. More like collected/quick to blow at the same time (as in always trying to be mature and calm and losing it anyway XD). Not the "nervous-lookie-there's-a-stranger". But then, as it is Kanou's point of view... ^^ He would be nervous around Kanou (but he wouldn't show it). In this point, I think you got the gruffiess perfectly well, because he'd hibe nervousness behind it.
Oda is very nicely written also ^^
I find it quite ironic that Kanou is the one asking about Mihashi's well being (but that's a weirdness from the manga, how Mihashi forgives and Kanou and him become friends again). I mean, hello ! Mihoshi bullied Mihashi (XDD) !! Hatake threatened to break his ARM !
Anyway, all in all, very good one shot, hope you write more in this fandom ^^

I am loving your portrayal of Oofuri character interactions! I really could see this happen. It's funny, a very insightful glimpse of the relationship between Kanou and Oda, Kanou and Mihashi, and now Kanou and Abe. Great job!
