ALEO 2008-06-17 . chapter 24I've just found this and read the lot in one sitting. Wow! This was excellent! I see the category is drama/suspense - it has all of that and more.
The inevitibility that the Bill and his cronies would get Charlie was heart wrenching, knowing it was going to happen no matter what obstacles the FBI threw into their path. It was clear that they were very determined. A little surprising given that however, that only Bill alone made the first attempt taking on the three Eppes in their own home. A snatch at CalSci would have been easier but not as confronting for the plot as the Eppes dining room.
I was really happy with your potrayal of Charlie in this, he was even determined to not give in if Don was taken and used as leverage. He knew that Don would not forgive him for using his math to make it possible for Bill to kill innocents, just as he would never forgive himself. He had no option but to refuse no matter the cost to him or the potential cost to Don. Charlie is not a weakling as often written, he has a deep strength to him, especially where it is something he fundamentally believes in. The whole reason he became involved with the FBI was to save lives, not take them.
Don was very controlled, obeying orders as he must. It was very believable for an agent in his position to act the way he has, take more of a back seat and let others investigate - albeit under his very watchful eye. I loved that he saw through the attempt at the deception designed to lure him into Bill's net and stood strong, not throwing himself to the wolves in a foolish attempt 'to be with Charlie if nothing else'. Don would not want to allow himself to be taken and used as leverage. If the game was that serious he had to leave Charlie alone until rescue could be affected. Tough choice, but he is one tough dude.
I hope the Eppes are safe now but kind of suspect that there may be more in the wings, who are Bill's backers? Are there others prepared to step up to take the game further?
I will wait and see.
Cheers |
