Normally a child has five parents: - the genetic father - the genetic mother - the gestational mother or womb mother - the social mother - the social father Traditionally the three mother roles are done by one woman, and the two father roles are done by one man, but even traditionally these roles could be split due to death or divorce. So Joyce and Hank are without doubt Buffys social parents, and I would always call them real parents. You can always introduce a third woman to be Buffys womb mother, or if you want to push the immaturity of the five genetic parents, have them transfer the embryo to Joyce (e.g. by magic), because they couldn't be bothered with the child.
