Your story was recc'd by a_respite at his LJ and I was intrigued. Excellent writing and an original plot, I'm glad that I gave it a try. It was great to see a memorial to Hedwig. I really enjoyed it and saved it my favorites so I can remember to rec it elsewhere.

Yow! This was fantastically original, just as your anagram drabble was. Both are exactly the kind of out-of-the-box thinking that I enjoy most.

You provided humor, breathtaking excitement, military strategy, heroics, and heartbreak, and all in the space of - what? - a few thousand words. That in itself is a remarkable achievement, but the thing that made me read it over again was the way you managed to suggest a significant backstory for the owls in such a remarkably spare way. Their use of that owl jargon, the hints of history between the different birds, those things "made" this story, in my opinion.

The style reminded me a little of Redwall, which I don't know if you're familiar with, although it had more the feel of science fiction than fantasy. Maybe a hint of Brin's Uplift books? Something like that. Anyway. I liked it. A lot. Cheers!

Wow. First off, was curious at to whether you had just watched the Real Episode 1 of SW when you wrote this(Lucas can retcon all he likes, the first SW I watched had no Episode IV in the opening crawl). Still it was sad to see the death of Hedwig/India, as for one reason or another, she was one of Harry's friends in the series, and he had very few of those imo. Nice, but bittersweet.

...Yeah, that star wars referrence was cool.

That was great! Definitely a different idea. I loved it.

Yes! This was bloody brilliant! Funny, but then shifted to drama and the outright pain of war . . . all within a single story. I loved the use of the military stuff in the beginning (probably because my hubby's a freak with Call of Duty games!) but I really loved the bits at the very end . . . with the fighting descriptions and Hedwig's last moments on earth. Wasn't expecting the drama at the end, but it rounded out the story very well.

I would love it if you did a little series of stories like this from each of the other owls' POVs. This was really good! (and sorry I didn't get to it sooner!)
