A good little vignette that speaks to what must surely feel like a hopeless situation. Your description of sensation was quite vivid, and did remind me a bit of unstabilized free fall. I find it interesting that they didn't try to stabilize themselves or prepare for landing. But that was explained for the purposes of the story.

I am a bit curious as to the line "He had doomed them to never return." Was it entering the tunnel to begin with? Or something that happened during one of their adventures?

this is great, I think it captures what they must feel well!
