Hmm, I really loved the way you presented Penelo's PoV in the gist of 'going from following what everyone else believes/convinces her to believe to making her own judgement based on actually meeting Basch'. Course, Balthier's was ever-true to his scarcastic tune of thought, but his insight to being able to get along with Basch (despite the 'my evil twin did it' excuse XD) and actually considering going to visit him in Archades just goes to show the understanding you have on his entire character, not just one or two attributes of it.
Fran's PoV is always a joy to read; especially since -she's glad to have dropped the cage! ;)- it's such a part of her character to pinpoint Basch as having endured/seen more than the rest of the party. Though, Vaan's always the perfect mix of humour and sentiment, even more with the transition from hating Basch for what *he* did to Reks, and coming to accept him and see him as a brother-at-arms. :)
As with Basch's PoV on Ashe, you've done an excellent job in showing her own respective consideration towards him; giving a concise, yet informative insight back to their younger days, and even giving comparison to Vossler. Still, I'm glad to see that you didn't head for the direction of 'Basch is constantly a living shield-, but instead showing his respect to her wishes, motives, and personal space.
(And yes, the last line to her PoV was definitely the icing on the cake! :D)
Heheh, for all the logical basis of Balthier's depthful thought on Ashe, I still love that last line (And the 'I prefer to avoid trouble while I can' premise that goes echoed in both his anf Fran's thoughts; partners indeed! XD).
On mention of Fran, you have, once again, put forth so much of her character and genuine thought in the fewest of words. Course, I simply adore Vaan's response ("I think she gets annoyed with me, though."), which very much had me at the middling ground of Lol-ing and 'aww'-ing. :)
Penelo's comparison of herself to Ashe was brought about in a very canon way, all while being glad to have been in her company during their travels. And yet, Basch is a winner for me; the takes on his and Ashe's thoughts on one another are always my favourites, yet, Basch's insightful observation of her here is definitely placed tops in that category! :D
(While I do wish to see how the rest of the cast turns out... I'm right curious to see their views to the Lordling who would be Emperor! ;))
To allow me to derail into borderline Vaan fanboyism, it's safe to say FFXII wouldn't have been an adventure without him - definitely not a fun one worth playing, at the least. His role in the game and the party is easily the most undervalued by the fanbase (especially when you consider that the party would never have met without him). I dare say I'd rather play as him over Balthier or Ashe any day.
This is a good piece of work. The best thing is the honest assessment and analysis of character opinions - each one is perfectly in-character and no detail is exaggerated just to fit your own perspective. I appreciate the presentation (the party members one after another) just the same. It's hard for me to pick a favourite among which, but I think I like Ashe's the most.
Aww, I love Fran's take on him; so Viera-concise, yet so wholly meaningful. :) Course, Balthier was a grade A example of his own personality and mannerisms. Even if he does give way to usher a few compliments for Vaan, he even goes as far as to call the poor kid a yellow coward! :P
Course, Ashe's mention of their similarities and differences is always something I adore to read about them, though, her respect for him is both surprising, yet in the context you presented it in, completely canon for her character.
And Basch! Despite the overall divergence of their personalities, it's the similar case of 'brothers betrayed' that makes the both of them so able to relate to each other. Regardless, the last line in Basch's PoV has got to be my all-around favourite; at least someone realizes that, by the end of it, Vaan ain't a kid anymore! ;)
All and above, it's Penny (in all her words of poignant nostalgia and heartfelt perception) who takes the prize for my favourite PoV! (Hey, even if I do normally go for Larsa/Penelo, that doesn't mean I'm not open -and supportive- of the concept of Vaan/Penelo! ;P)
