Gyreflight 2008-04-29 . chapter 1Oh! I remember this one - I read it a few years ago on fkfanfic...and it made enough of an impression that I still remember it fondly. I even remembered the title when I saw it here.
It's interesting to look at the very early days of the Nick-Nat connection, before knowledge, certainty and assumptions attach to everything.
I liked the way you played out Nick's impressions and reactions to and about Nat, and his line about having known some very argumentative dead made me smile.
Nat's line: "I'll bet you could have chased me off if you really applied yourself; I'm probably not that unflappable," also stood out, both as a point of fact and as a good piece of characterisation - that she would realise it, that she would face Nick with it, and that she'd do it with that mix of truth and self-deprecating sideways humour.
Lovely to see this again and to discover both that you're still writing (as I notice from your profile), and that you're putting some of the earlier pieces back into circulation.
Thanks for the re-post and the reminder.
