Catch23North 6/29/08 . chapter 1This one almost says more about Jazz than it does about Red Alert and Inferno.
Between 'using' Prowl while he can, and deciding whether or not to 'accidentally' delete Red's file, you've taken us a lot deeper behind the scenes of what goes on in Jazz's head than most writers. Typically, Jazz would have been presented as desperately-in-love-and-can't-help-himself(with Prowl) and thinking of deleting Red's file would have had a personal back-story, like Jazz having a friend/relative who was also underage when they joined up.
The way YOU wrote him, Jazz comes across as being both fully adult and deliberately irresponsible... like nothing can touch his groove, past, present or future. I think you've hit on something here, and it finally allowed me to define why Jazz's race-winning victory flourish on the credits looks so -cold-.
...That race is taking place not long after half the original G1 crew died during the movie.
Jazz has sympathetic emotions, and he'll back his friends to the hilt, but that doesn't include doing the kind of Human-style brooding that Prime and some of the others engage in.-It's not logical to waste time brooding in a war that's already killed almost everyone around you, so Jazz just doesn't.
I think he and Prowl may be more alike than most people realize.
...Can you picture the look on Jazz's visor if it turns out that Prowl has been -faking- this?
The contrast between Red's intelligence, maturity, and responsibility levels was handled well too.
He's a teenager.
He's a very serious teenager intent on taking on more than he can handle, but he's still a teenager. That cames through beautifully in the way that what he wants to do-sometimes what he's just DECIDED he'd do-is the total opposite of what he ends up doing. Teenagers DO that, it comes with the territory.
Red's smart enough to know he's not ready for sparkbonding just yet, but immature enough to wildly underestimate those around him, DESPITE the fact that he doesn't trust them an inch.-He could be one awesome adult someday.
My only critique on Red Alert is that his paranoia seemed over the top. Remember, he was seriously screwed up and in need of maintenance when he freaked out and teamed up with Starscream in the series. He's usually jumpy, but not flat-out irrational.-Unless his paranoia is ALWAYS exaggerated when he's physically damaged as a sort of over-compensation thing... Hmm...
Inferno was wonderful.
Such a comforting presence for Red Alert, yet no fool.
Firemen are known for dashing off to save the day at a moment's notice, and for doing very brave, dumb things.
Inferno has both of those bases well covered.
What people tend to forget, and what Red Alert benefits from in this story, is that they're also good at waiting patiently for a call that might not come.
Love and matches, guys. |

Fire From Above 4/11/08 . chapter 1That was interesting. |
akisawana 4/10/08 . chapter 1I know what you were trying to get at here was about age and maturity, but what really stuck out to me, what puts this one on my favorites list, is how Inferno asks nothing from Red Alert, puts zero pressure on him, is waiting for him to be ready in his own time, and is grateful for what Red Alert will give him, without sending any sort of mixed signal. That's a delicate line, and it is walked well. |
Tiamat1972 4/10/08 . chapter 1That's so sweet! I wasn't sure about the whole underage idea for a transformer but you did it in a good way. |
