Whilom 7/23/09 . chapter 1
Sam's words to Dean before he found out he was possessed were chilling. He was so creepy, sitting there in the dark all stiff and unnatural. I loved Dean staring at Sam, then urging him to get his stuff, and Sam talking about the places they could go-pancakes and go-carts. They seem so trivial, but things like that are grounding.

I didn't expect that our brothers being overtaken by those brothers to work our their issues. Very nice.

I think Dean's reaction was spot on, too. Sammy chasing after him to the car was perfect, so real.
It's good to see them both work through all that busyness of the time and just spend time together and have some fun...or just be.

Well done. Very satisfying.

I liked this wrap-up to the episode a lot. It was interesting to have the ghost brothers possess the Winchester boys and talk it out, and then for Sam and Dean to up and leave Atlantic City. Very fitting for our boys, and a very interesting take on what the ghost brothers might have wanted to say to one another.
Good job!

Nice story!

I love that the way Dean enters the room in the dark and Sam, sitting in an almost unatural way responds in a semi-irrelevent manner reminds me of the drunk scene in Playthings.“You’re my brother.
He rubbed a ridiculously fluffy towel over his face. “Yeah, not your old man, so cut it out, Sam.
I like that the way that's phrased implies that the(irresponsible) father in question would have answer to the son. Nice echo of Sam and Dean's feelings about John and, by extension, all father daugerotypes."The Impala’s passenger door opened, and Sam slid inside as if he had every right to be there. Which, okay, he did.
Yup. That's like the first half of season three in a nutshell. The boys both needing to and finding it painful to be around each other. Both steping on each others' toes and yet not getting personal enough to solve anything."They sat in the relative quiet of the car, both of them staring out through the windshield as the city life flowed around them. Always their own island.
Definitely. A perfect encapulation of the two of them and the Winchesters family.

I like the use of the "Cain and Abel" plot in this episode to parallel Sam and Dean and I love that you took it even further.

Great tag! I've only seen this episode once, chopped up on Youtube, only remember it vaguely. Sometimes your stories capture the brotherly moments better than the actual show does. Great job!

I loved it! Kudos!

I read this last week, misplaced it, found it today, read it again, and realized it's even better a second time around!
I absolutely LOVE the ending- from the moment Sam joined Dean in the car. It's perfect and profoundly touching.
And one sentence stood out among all of the others because of its intensity and just plain raw emotion"God, he loved this kid so much sometimes, it hurt too."

Aha! Sam writing too! See, I am just catching up.
Great tag to the ep-especially since it was not a favorite ep. You've given some depth to a plot that seemed to get glossed over, even though the parallel situations of the brothers was a significant element. Unfinished business, indeed...thaks for picking up where Kripke and Co. left off!

Favorite part
He could see Sam’s nod out of his peripheral vision. “But maybe…maybe protecting the younger can mean protecting himself, too. ’Cause even if the younger one can take care of himself, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t need his big brother, too.
YES! It's so sad Dean still needs to be given a function of utility to see any value in himself, but if that's what it takes, at least Sam is recognizing it and trying to give it to him. Some day, I hope, Dean will find a way to love himself as much as he is loved (and wouldn't he just cringe at me even THINKING that, let alone saying it? Dr. Phil-stop me!)

What an amazing idea! I love the idea that the brothers had to duke it out and of course our own brothers have some things that need saying, so there we are then. You actually made both of them sympathetic-not easy, kudos to you.

I seriously have loved every single one of your stories, and this one is definitely no exception.

I love when Dean just realizes where Sam's coming from, and that he just wants to be with his big brother... and then Sam's suggestion to just go to go to the place with the pie and the go-karts, and then him getting embarassed by it.. seriously just awesome, add that to Dean's..."God, he loved this kid so much sometimes, it hurt too. But in a whole different way
...and really, just completely perfect. Just another reminder why I love these guys so much.
