It's not often you come across something that explores the Doctor's feelings about everyone he's ever lost in such detail. . . with the doubt of the Earth and its people, the one place he's got left to go for support. And the paragraph going into after the events of Last of the Time Lords was brilliant - the 'His heart was like a cracked window, broken, irreparable, but not shattered. And then every new person who he grew to care about and then left him was like a knock on that window, making the crack grow that little bit bigger.' just about sums up how the Doctor has been since the Time War, a shadow of his former self just looking for someone who can stay with him so he doesn't have to put up with himself. Overall, I really enjoyed this peace. I'm going to look out for more by you. I'm also adding this story to my favourites, and you to my favourite authors.
highland girl 1592 2008-04-18 ch 1,	abuseI can think of three other Companions who's absence/death hit the Doctor especially hard too,the first is his granddaughter Susan,she chose to stay behind on Earth because she had fallen in love with a young man she had met.The second would be Adric,a young boy and brilliant mathematician who gave his life for Earth when the Cybermen tried to prevent the Human Race from becoming.And Peri Brown,they were separated and he never saw her again although the Time Lords told him she was a alright.A Warrior-King who had befriended Peri and the Doctor took her back to his home-world and made her his Queen.That would be the Original Doctor[William Hartnell]who said good-bye to Susan,the Fifth Doctor would be Peter Davis who couldn't save Adric and the Sixth Doctor is Colin Baker who was separated or rather taken away from Peri.I don't remember the titles of the episodes about Susan and Adric but the one with Peri is called [Trial of a Time Lord]a three-parter.I believe it was the Second Doctor,Patrick Troughton who gave the reason why he cares so much about Earth and Humans as he tried once to explain it to the Time Lords,"Because Earth out of all the millions of worlds in the universe,Earth is the most vulnerable." [this is not an exact quote but it's the closest as I remember it to be]:)
