(in canon, that's not always the way to bet). One wonders if the Lupin in this story would actually let the Headmaster know if Black entered the castle, or if Wormtail's name appeared. |

Harry's actions demonstrate the perfect amount of defiance, yet he's still young enough to know better than to try to resist his punishment. I love the details you use in this story...the traces of mud clinging to Harry's palm...his expression during the lecture when he tries to look curious and innocent. I've seen *that* look feigned a thousand times, I believe. lol. And, as always, the corporal punishment is vastly realistic. I've read stories where Harry is stoic throughout the whole punishment...or where the amount of smacks is just ridiculous (and still, Harry doesn't cry). Even though Harry is brave, he's still a boy...and he's human...and he'll obviously react to the pain and be affected by the shame of his disobedience. However, you can still tell that Harry has grown a bit in this story in comparison to your first/second-year stories. Maybe it's the defiance and hesitancy. I'm not sure... But there's just something so *thirteen* about him here. And I love how you've incorporated Lupin in this story as well. His voice is perfectly written. And I adored his 'small smile' at the end that was virtually lost on Harry. Great job, Quinn! |
