Interesting to know where you came up with the idea that Jack has a tradition, a ritual almost, to soothe him after the tradgedy of losing employees.

It's very sad really to think that it's happened to him so often that he recogises repeated patterns in his own behaviour and now even embraces them.

This little story plumbs deeper than it seems to at the outset. Well, it did for me.
