Madame Lady 2008-10-24 . chapter 15I'm SO SO SORRY that I took so long to read this. TT_TT I was so busy when you uploaded this, and then I forgot, and AGH. D':
This was seriously amazing. This one really got my heart...you seem to do that more and more often with these.
It was...chilling, in more ways than one. The whole idea of going into Light's existence in neither Heaven nor Hell...though this definitely sed like a form of Hell...wow. And the way you worded everything, you entered his mind and completely hit the mark. AUGH, it felt so...real.
I can't praise this one enough. I can't. I'm sorry again that I couldn't beta for you...that .doc.rtf thing was weird. D: But this is really, really good.
Plus, I didn't see any weird sentences, errors or typos...so yay for that! :D |
HerVictory 2008-10-17 . chapter 15Wow. This is simply breathtaking. The atmosphere that you create with your phrases and language is so haunting. I love the dynamic between Light and Sayu here. Very beautiful piece, thank you for sharing it with us!
Aside from that, I do see growth from your earlier pieces. I can see more vivid descriptions and more intricate symbolism, some of the best that I've ever read. Plus there's a good variety of characters that you use. I hope to read more from you in the future, its okay if it takes "a long time", like you said. I'm willing to wait. :) |
keem 2008-09-16 . chapter 14i've seen a lot of take's on L's home life, but none of them quite like this. i usually seem him portrayed as this unloved, neglected thing... but this is interesting. the fact that L's mother loves him so much... its touching. the fact that L has an aversion to her touch, as opposed to the other way around, is original, and a breath of fresh air. as i've probably told you repeatedly, i adore all your work; this piece is no different. but there's something different about this one... the relationship between mother and son really tugs at the heartstrings... the fact that L is the one to spurn his mother, as opposed to the other way around... just wow.
xD sorry this is just incohorent blathering here. i really like this one, but it bothers me at the same time, you know? but it makes it more realistic in a way. good work. |
Madame Lady 2008-09-16 . chapter 14Gah, I'm upset I couldn't beta this. D: This was great. I don't even know how to explain it, it was just great. The detail, the idea behind it all, how very in-character it was...just, yes. All of it. |
WithABunny 2008-09-15 . chapter 14Of all the writing I've seen detailing what circumstances led L to become an orphan, I think this is the best one I've read.
L's apparent detachment, as well as his conflict with his grown-up mind and still childlike heart, are all laid out bare. His dysfunctional relationship with his mother was something I liked very much; surely an intellect like his would have made any of his relationships, even at home, somewhat awkward.
I also liked how you made him label the pools of blood as "puddles". It adds to the childish picture. Oh, and the white benches and other red things? Genius.
Anyway, you've done another great job. |
 defectivebrainstorm 2008-09-14 . chapter 14God damn...
And I mean you of all people know how much... well I won't say hatred. The show, the manga, it has its charms. Disinterest, that be the word I'm looking fer. Anyways. You fircs always bring the slumbering interest out to snuffle the air a bit, and it truly amazes me.
Because we don't really know what happened to L's parents, do we? But I mean this is so bloody believable, it's like hey... did this really happen? All of them, Watari, L, I can see them, their character, pick it up and say, oh, yeah, this is them. And I don't even watch the darn show XD. That's how great and moving this is.
I always looked at L and thought, even though he's kinda a morbid character, that he never is truly sad, never truly anything. And you played off that so well in this chappie. Even though his parents are dead he doesn't seem sad, just... reflecting. And it's him, man, him to a tee. And his veiws on people... like you nailed what it must be to be such an abnormal in such a brutally normal world. I loved it, I felt it, his numbness, his irritation, his bittersweetness.
Seriously. How. Do. You. Do. It? I'm actually excited to see an update. I really am. Especially this one you say your picking at. You've got me all worked up XD. |
Madame Lady 2008-08-14 . chapter 13Great descriptions, interesting story...wonderfully...insane. I think. That's the vibe I get from this chapter.
I wish I knew more about this character...and story...I really would like to read Another Note, but haven't had a lot of time lately and have just not been in the mood for reading. I'm so backed up with fanfic chapters I wanna read but I just...augh. Not feelin' it.
Amazing writing, as always. ^^ |
keem 2008-08-13 . chapter 13haha! what a nice little look into what's going on in B's head. you've done a good job at making this engaging even although there's not really all that much going on. i also like the fact that you injected his weird laugh in there. xD and the fact that he's talking to the wildlife... and inverting colors... everything is very... well... 'B', as far as i can tell.
the great thing (and the bad thing, at the same time) about B is that his character isn't really very fleshed out in the Another Note novel - all we pretty much know is that he's a malcontent, crazy L-wanna-be. most of the character traits we have to infer by other things, and so it lets us take artistic liberties... since we don't really get very many details about his time in Wammy's House at all, it's always nice to see people's renditions on the subject. and your's is especially lovely!
i'm surprised you don't get more love for this particular fic. maybe it's because it covers such a wide variety of topics? also, the death note category is just so impossibly huge... with almost 10k stories, it's easier to overlook great fic's since theyre constantly being pushed off the top page :( maybe it would have done better if you had divvy'ed it up into a series of one-shots? like, all B-drabbles, or all L/Misa drabbles? I'm not sure, but i think it's excellent. and then there's always those people who lurk and fav+ without saying anything. i hope it doesn't discourage you at all because your stuff really is fantastic. i'm spell-bound literally every time. so even if you stop with the drabbles here, i hope to still get my PhaerynTao DN fix through other fics! i'm counting on you! henh henh henh...! xD |
keem 2008-08-08 . chapter 10this, by far, is my favorite piece of out your entire series. not because it's largely Mello-centric (which i love), but because you've turned just another day at the wammy orphanage into something engaging and poignant. the dialogue between matt and mello are especially clever, and at several points you had me giggling uncontrollably in my seat (the reference to mello being a blond richard pryor, and mello dropping a cat on near's face, to name a few.) i also like matt's analysis of mello - that he is simply a child who is acting out of pain, and not really "evil." and the part where mello kissed the cat's bat at the end was so sweet. anyway, great job, as always! |
keem 2008-08-06 . chapter 12every single one of these chapters is pure genius, and im shocked and a little appalled that you havent received more acknowledgment for it. your imagery is so vivid and lovely. i absolute adore all of your drabbles, and this is definitely going on my favorites ;) keep up the great work! |
Brain Eater Jr. 2008-07-12 . chapter 12hey, you updated! haha, even though it's a little overdue, i hope you still appreciate this review :)
what can i say about this? admittedly it's nothing new for me, this kind of interaction between l and misa, with l being the pseudo-comforting-shoulder-quasi-rebound guy, and misa being the insane guy's more-than-admirer. or at least something like that.
in any case, despite that, i still enjoyed this short, if only for the vivid images on it. misa's disease and slight disfiguration, for instance, added a gruesome touch to this scene, which really adds an interesting effect to the quasi-rebound aforementioned. you also got l's thought processes (that is so often mistaken for emotion) real well.
ah, sorry for rambling. one last thing, i like the ending best about this. it ain't happy, but it made sense, just like misa said.
great job! if i need to detoxify from school again, i hope i can read another short from you :D |
 Madame Lady 2008-07-01 . chapter 12Oh, the angst! D:
Very, very beautifully done. As outwardly annoying as Misa is in the series, it's really great to see that depth that you write for her. It's...it's just right. It feels right. Like a lot of the stuff you do, it just has that YES feel to it.
And I love the interactions between Misa and L that you've written.
...You know what? I love pretty much everything you write. xD
But yeah. C= This is some good stuff. Much love. |
Tokebi211 2008-06-27 . chapter 12I'm so glad to see your update. Beautiful as always.
It's always nice to see Misa with more dimensions than the stereotype, and you portray her achingly well. Not to mention Ryuuzaki's subtle, bittersweet attitude toward her.
Thanks for another great read! |
Brain Eater Jr. 2008-05-17 . chapter 10Hehe. That must have been a challenge, writing out Mello like that, all -kind to animals- and such. Admittedly he's a little out-of-character for me, and Near is too, but I think in a friendship story like this, that's something ya can't avoid, can ya? Hehehe.
I like how 'sassy' Near was in this story. In tonnes of Whammy's stories in this site, he seems too nice and too wimpy... so yeah. I'm glad you deviated from that trend :) |
White Mikado 2008-05-15 . chapter 11Oh, this is very different in style from the first few chapters I read of this fic. But still loving it. :D
My anime DVDs just arrived yesterday and I went through 20 episodes in one night. WOT! My eyes will devour the rest tonight! Then I'll watch the live action movie this weekend.
Anyhoo, nicely written and I'm looking forward to the next chapter.
The "The two lied in bed" was a great play on words.
C ya.
