A perfect blend of realistic detail--in soldier PoV no less--with the surreal insanity of Penny, Caulder, Creeper Virus, and the meteor apocalypse. Your dramatic narration, descriptive urban setting, robust dialouge, strong character development, and beleivable OCs make for a compelling story. And that chapter where Mr. Bear is taken hostage and held at gun point...that was just brilliant. Penny's mood shift from her normal hyper-insanity to icy-cold "I will stare you down until you die" insanity fit the moment perfectly.
