Loca Bambina 2008-07-14 . chapter 1Oh wow, that was really... different. In a very good way. :)
I'll get the technical stuff out of the way - definitely some awkward phrasing and a couple misused words, but nothing too bad. Really, it amazes me in all your work how much of a command you have over the English language!
I love how the sixth grade play traumatized Kyle so much that he would act in a porno; it's so un-Kyle, so OOC, that it worked. Stan is incredibly... Stan-like in his fascinated discomfort, and as Foodstamp said, the whole piece had this incredibly awkward air about it, which is a very difficult and impressing thing to pull off. Good job. :) |
Foodstamp 2008-06-10 . chapter 1I am so sorry for the huge delay! Work, school, stupid real life, etcetera. I feel better for letting this sink in, actually, because otherwise you would’ve gotten like ten pages of “OMG OMG I LOVE IT!!” Which, for the record, was my initial reaction. Thank you SO much for sharing this.
Okay, there are so many amazing things going on in this. First of all, obviously, I love the originality! It is a brilliant idea; what a great mixture of comedy, romance, and downright discomfort! I doubt many people could have pulled this off, let alone as masterfully as you did. Second, there’s Kyle and his horrible acting…I get way too happy whenever an author writes the boys with actual faults. I mean, as much as I love the idea of them being gorgeous and perfect and super at everything, that totally doesn’t happen. Giving your characters clear weaknesses doesn’t make them objectionable. It makes them so real. (Somehow, Kyle as a sucky actor really works well in my mind. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because he’s the most prone to histrionics. Kyle being dramatic on stage is almost redundant, haha.)
Finally, and probably most importantly, there’s the fact that this is awkward. Horribly, horribly awkward. My god, if I ever caught my best friend in a porno, I would probably take years to recover. But there’s something really beautiful about Stan’s reaction. I mean, puking aside (even though that was freaking perfect!) it never occurs to him to cut Kyle out of his life or anything--he’s just bummed out because he thinks it was a trust issue. In fact, he actually decides to familiarize himself with Ky’s filmography. Ulterior motives?? Maybe, and so what. Oh, Stan, we love him in his complete romantic obliviousness.
Stan’s ending line was classic, and every innuendo was spot on. Thank you so much for your participation in the contest, and for finding a more unique, hilarious, and sexy interpretation of the prompt than I ever expected--this was totally amazing!! Good freaking luck when July rolls around, and best wishes!! |
