Another excellent story! Nate is a particular favorite of mine, and I think you did his point-of-view justice. (I only have one complaint. Now I need to go find a copy of the first few episodes and rewatch...) ;-)

Wonderful writing.

I missed the first five or six episodes of the season, and so have been trying to build up a clear picture of what happened before I began watching. As such, I don't know whether any of what you described in this piece directly related to canon. However, even if it doesn't, you have made it very plausible.

I've never really considered Nate much of an enigma - he's always seemed very flat and easily describable in two or less sentences. I really like the way you've given him more than two dimensions, and explained his thought process. The way you've written his interactions with other characters - his mother, his father, Dr McKenna - bring a lot more feeling and interest toward him.
