Akela Victoire 5/21/12 . chapter 25This... I just spent the past few days reading through this and I do not regret it at all. This was an absolutely brilliant piece of writing and I tip my e-hat off to you sir for writing such a great work. Thank you so much for sharing this with the other Harry Potter fans of the world! |
M. Ryen 5/20/12 . chapter 25Very few works of fiction have brought me to tears. This is one of the rare exceptions. Neville, since he stood up to Ron, Harry, and Hermione in the Philosopher's stone, has been one of my favorite characters. The development of his character was gradual, and his courage, in spite of a lack of natural ability, was inspiring. I have longed for years to find a story that relayed his story with the conviction necessary to describe nine terrifying months in the life of seventeen year old boy as he became a man. You have surpassed my expectations and hopes. My husband has been deployed three times. Even though he has never seen direct combat, the last few chapters that dealt with the battle were heart-wrenching. They brought back the aching sadness I felt over the year he was gone, yet it was soothing to grieve with Neville and his friends, if only to remind myself that the worst has past. My mother is deploying within the next few weeks, and as I write this, I feel the fear of the unknown well up inside me. I will hope for the best for my mom, my siblings, and my daughter, who loves her Nana so dearly. I am grateful for you and your story. Thank you, M. Ryen |
SavingViolets 5/19/12 . chapter 8S |
SavingViolets 5/19/12 . chapter 7No! Luna! This can't be happening to her, she's so...Luna. Snape is an evil, evil person. And so is Voldemort for why he did to Renny. On another note, though...YAY NEVILLE AND HANNAH! I really love them together. I think she keeps him sane. Anyway, onward! To the next chapter... |
SavingViolets 5/19/12 . chapter 6GO NEVILLE! That plant magic was AWESOME. And the look on Snape's face when they returned...oh, I can only imagine it. The salute was a nice touch. Great chapter! Sorry this is so short, but I'm too eager to read the next one. Oh, wait, one more thing. My favourite boon ever (after Harry Potter, of course) is The Little Prince, and I've just noticed that in your story, Luna acts a lot like the Little Prince. |
SavingViolets 5/19/12 . chapter 5Good writing, as usual! But this chapter made me...I don't know. I just didn't like that mission, although you didn't have much of a choice about putting it in there. Oh, well. You did the best you could. And it was a great chapter. On another note, I loved that Ernie puked on Snape. And I'm glad they found Lee |
SavingViolets 5/18/12 . chapter 4I think this is the first time Seamus calls Neville 'Fearless Leader.' I love that nickname for him by the way. Colin is absolutely adorable; I'm sure this is not what he wants to hear, but it's true. He's like, the picture of resilience, and that is something special. I'm so glad that Parvati broke it off with Neville. If they are truly planning to die at the end of the year, they should make every minute count, not waste their time on nothings. MIKE AND TERRY! I'm sorry, but I adore those two. I think there's something more than what Rowling wrote, and it's always been bugging me. So far, I like how close they are. I have hope for you yet! I love the concept of the foreign spells, and I think Neville handled the situation with Ginny and Runcorn really well. He's really stepping up as a leader. And oh, Finnigan. He keeps them in check, with his dirty mouth, black sense of humour, and his mind in the gutter. |
SavingViolets 5/18/12 . chapter 3Oh, my goodness, Neville has changed so much. He really isn't the little boy from first year...but this is such an improvement! I love the new him...I think he's kind of braver than Harry, in a way. And he definitely has better self-control. Harry would have snapped at Snape, but Neville kept his cool and got out of there unscathed. |
s-david-m 5/17/12 . chapter 25Very well done. A year that was a little less exciting probably fits a bit better with Canon, but it wouldn't have been nearly as engaging. I'll definitely be checking out your other stories! |
s-david-m 5/17/12 . chapter 11Still enjoying this a lot, but a couple of things don't add up. Colin didn't have to sign his name to that parchment to Malfoy. In fact, it could have been a false name, or you could have protected the secret keeper of the DA behind another Fidelius. Also, I don't see why Colin had to meet everyone newly joining the DA. You had already established that you could be let in on the secret via a message written by Colin. |
s-david-m 5/16/12 . chapter 5Enjoying this story immensely. I think this is truly how Neville should have turned out, so kudos for doing him justice. However, I will take issue with the portrayal of climbing. Nobody but an expert could climb for over an hour straight. It's exhausting, and you have them climbing for almost 2 hours. Also odd they didn't think to use the portals to escape. |
s-david-m 5/16/12 . chapter 3Great story so far. Would have been funnier to just levitate Snape onto the table in the Great Hall and step on him to get past the tables, rather than levitating each other. ;-) |
Simply-Me-SC 5/14/12 . chapter 25Wow. Just...wow. I remember reading this a few years ago but I couldn't find it again until a couple of days ago and I am so glad I finally found it again. This is a masterpiece. It made me laugh at points (I especially loved the Muggle identification part) and it made me want to cry and even though at some points I felt as though I should put it down for a few moments (such as when Michael was being tortured) I just could not stop reading because this story has captivated me in a way that no other story on fanfiction has. It was gritty and it wasn't sugar coated and I loved it. It really made me sit and think. The readers got to go on a journey with the characters and see what it would have been like to be at Hogwarts during that year and I love that everything was so believable. The characters evolved from innocent kids into soldiers and it really makes you think about what it must be like for the soldiers out there in the real world and those affected by war. Neville really did come in to his own and I like how some of the minor characters who might've just had a line or two in the books became main characters in this story who now have a place in the readers' hearts. I will keep this story in mind the next time I re-read the Harry Potter series, and I don't think I will be able to ever look at some of the characters' names in the same way ever again. The story flowed so nicely and it is so well-written. This piece of writing is amazing and you truly do have a gift. Thank you so much for writing this brilliant work and this is by far the best piece of fanfiction I have EVER read. |
Miss Paige 5/8/12 . chapter 25This story was incredible and refused to let me put it down and function as a normal person. One of the best stories I have read in a long time and words can't quite say how thankful I am froyou publishing this story |
delightedbookworm 5/3/12 . chapter 25Any time I read a story, to some extent I am placing my imagination in the care of the writer. From beginning to end, this story drew me in with vivid characters who shared their joys, laughter, fears and sorrows with me. I found myself laughing hysterically at antics that were deeply ingrained in the personalities and plot, not merely pulled from a joke book. I cried at deep love and sacrifice that made complete sense for the characters. Thank you for writing, and I look forward to immersing myself in your other works! |
