Oh my, so tragic that she's been there so much longer than everyone else. What a beautifiul image of resetting the scene back to yesteryear. I tried to review through chapter 8 the other day and it wouldn't let me, so let me just say I love it image of Claire with grey in her hair. Just so wonderful!

Those references to Jack work perefectly in showing the reader that, even now, he is a constant in her thoughts.

Aw, I am so glad you decided to continue with this!! I absolutely love it! Oh how amazing! You capture the grief so well. The short chapters really lend themselves to the content, the pain, the despair. And I love the thought of Claire drinking whiskey even though it doesn't taste the same as it did on his lips! Agh, too precious!

I think this is the most powerful chapter yet. Pausable and the connection reference is one I didn't see coming. But you are always good at keeping one step a head of your reader.

I didn't think it could get any sadder...but it does!

It's interesting that she "sees" Jack. Other television shows and movies depict people seeing their dear departed. In your story it's called a symptom of grief. (Maybe that's what Mike Logan was experiencing when he saw a murdered woman briefly through a bar window. Subsequently he sought help from Dr. Olivet-of course!)

You show Adam's empathy for Claire when he "sighs, suddenly looking old." One suspects he's also reflecting on his own residual feelings regarding Jack's passing.

It's obvious that McCoy will not be far from Claire's thoughts for a long time, at least not until she, in her own opinion, surpasses him as a jurist. Working towards that goal appears to be her way of working through her grief and coping with life without Jack.

This is an excellent piece in which you say so much in a few short paragraphs. Keep up the good work.
