runninequalslife 2009-11-02 . chapter 41Before I begin, I just want to let you know that this review is not because of any comment made or anything. I just have a lot of emotions towards this story at the moment and I need to share them again. I'm sorry it's going to be a mile long... again, but I just...I need to get this out. There are going to be spoilers for the next in the series.
You know, I opened this chapter because after the a night of my own Halloween party last night, I had this sudden feeling of need to reread this chapter of what seemed like years ago. Remembering how far the characters have come since this story is unbelievable, and I'm reveling in how brilliant you truly are. In hindsight, reading this had so many connections to the latest party in This Moment that I actually paused to open the chapter of This Moment just to compare the two. I'm not quite sure if you knew where you wanted to go and end up with this story since you were writing this, but as I've paged through a few chapters since your last update, I've begun to pick up tiny hints of where you wanted to take it. Again, it could be complete hindsight, but I've been noticing, and if you have been planning this, then you are so ungodly brilliant that I cannot describe it in mere words. To remember that Sharpay was so head over heels for Troy back then, and that Zeke wasn't even in the picture was almost eye opening to read. The fact that no one knew Ryan was gay was another bit that I had to rewind again. Chad and Taylor, who have come so far since their break, was again another piece of this magnificent puzzle you've created. And of course, how careful and chivalrous Troy was in this chapter in comparison to his drunken and horny state in chapter 41 (how ironic, they're the same chapter) of This Moment. I think that they had been in bliss for so long that as Troy wanted everything to be perfect for their first time in THIS chapter. He wanted everything to go right, he had the strength to tell her no because he wanted it to be memorable. Troy seemed to feel as though he was indestructible in the This Moment chapter. Which makes perfect sense. He's the captain of the basketball team, colleges want him, he's the most popular guy in school, his parents are loving, he has the girlfriend of his dreams. He's had life handed on a silver platter and, although still staying true to his canon character, I believe he became slightly cocky. Not in the obnoxious kind of way, but in a way that most teenage boys go through -when they feel they can do no wrong. And when Troy had his alcohol issue and could not perform, it was a slap to his slightly heightened ego. Which, by the way, was mentioned in this chapter about the effect of alcohol on his male anatomy. Again, not sure if you planned the foreshadowing, but it was mentioned.
Okay, this is becoming a review for This Moment. I'm sorry I'm trying to focus.
This Halloween party was excellent, there were moments that I laughed and sighed, and moments when my jaw just dropped and I realized how consistent your writing has been. But as I say this, I mean this in a positive light. Consistent that you're writing has such a high bar set that it's unreal. Your craftsmanship, my god, it's out of this world.
I know by now you're probably really annoyed with these reviews, but since the time of your last This Moment update, I guess my appreciation of this story has heightened to an immeasurable level. It's joked that I swoon a lot over certain stories, but honestly, it's a story like Someday that I've fallen in love with words. Although you sometimes claim you get bored, I just want you to know that this story is beyond High School Musical. This story is beyond dancing basketball captains. Honestly, it's far beyond musings of AU stories because this is so... real. It's the characters we love, but you've made them real. This story -and I have a difficult time calling it a story- is how teenagers behave and act and relate to each other. It's not like a movie, a novel, a fanfiction, anything. To be completely honest, this is a tale. It's a life. This story has a life to it.
I'm sorry I gush too much. But it's unreal. |
