DawnFire and Silver Huntress
2009-11-07 . chapter 30
You took the role of Aslan into your hands, and did an amazing job with it! The big, overall plan where everything fits together in the end. All the puzzle pieces have been beautifully woven into place, and for that, Tasty, you are brilliant.
I had thought that Talia and the others would be killed, leaving only Cauli, Edina, Aravis and Cor. After all, Caspian is probably Caspian the Conqueror, the first of that name, is he not? Maybe he'll wait a few years. Or more than that. Poor Ethan when that time comes a calling.
Well, I was right about Edina and Caulitha at least, being the Lady of the Green Kirtle and Ramandu's daughter.
How come Caulitha has lost her role as Peter's daughter, and now become known only as Ramandu's daughter? At least she got the chance to be Queen, as was her right. 'Mice'. teehee.
Congrats! The story is great. Everything has been tied together nicely. And then you'll mess it all up again in Nightmare. Go figure. I'm really excited for it!

Wow.
This is a slaughter! Everyone will be killed, excepting a few people, won't they? Mass murder in the span of a few weeks. Love it!
So many questions are running through my head. But I'm sure that everything will tie together pretty soon. Only 3 more chapters to go!
Hm... the Lady of the Green Kirtle and Ramandu's daughter. I have guesses as to who they are... I suppose I'll wait and find out.

You. Are. Awesome. Your Cor and Aravis are to die for. I adore your OCs...all one thousand of them. There are like more OCs in this story than canon characters! And yet I love each and every one of them and wish they each had their own novel-length stories. I particularily liked Talia, Priyah, and Rahai. Strong female characters that I feel I can relate to. They all have tragic pasts, yet do what they must for honor.

Hands down the best Narnia fan fiction I have ever read. Well done, and I will watch your career with interest.

I just finished chapter 29 and I must say that this chapter was just...amazing. Utterly amazing. I was practically drooling on my keyboard, my mouth was hanging open for so long.
I love your style of writing and the characters you write. I feel like I know them even better than the canon characters! This is astounding writing.
On to the final chapter now. :)

I cannot wait until your sequel is up and running, I have thoroughly enjoyed HKDS and COTC, both have been AMAZING, you are a wonderful writer. :D

Finally got around to reading this sequel... and I'm absolutely stunned. It's not often you encounter fanfic with such ambition and scope; you manage to blend war, intrigue, romance, drama, mystery, and psychology smoothly together *and* make it fit almost seamlessly in a world that's not your own. The balance between OCs/new plot and the familiar setting, history and characters of Narnia is perfect, and I love the way you make your story tie in with Narnian history as a whole (my favourite moment was the appearance of Coriakin). I don't say this often, but it seems to me you have all the makings of a 'real' novel writer. :)

Stylistically it's pretty great overall, though you're at your best when writing the dramatic scenes. There's this great scene where Talia and Corin are fighting in the defense of Anvard together and it's absolutely gripping in the quiet and thoughtful way you describe it - what came to mind was the classic movie battle scene where things go in slowmotion and they've cut out the sound. An absolute highlight.

Two minor points of (slightly subjective) concrit: first, some of the characters (esp. the OCs) tend to stay a bit colourless personality-wise... I would find it very hard to describe the characters of Talia and Saedra, for example, and the same goes more or less for Aravis. They don't really seem to have a 'voice' of their own - I don't really know how to say it, I hope you understand what I mean.
Secondly, though I really liked the italic parts from the POV of various characters, I thought the final one made things a bit too explicit. For example, the implicit hint that Edina would grow up to become the Lady of the Green Kirtle (and hence kill Caulitha) lent a pleasant tinge of horror/discomfort to the happy ending (because you know something the characters don't - plus it's nice to have deciphered the hints all by yourself), which you partly undid by making it explicit in the epilogue-like part. I think you should leave it out, but that's entirely your call of course. :)

Concludingly: COTC definitely goes into my (very short) favourite story list, and I'm sure it will blend in seamlessly with Narnia canon in my head. Amazing.

No, thank you for writing an amazing fanfic. ANd for finally showing Aravis and Cor end up together, that's been waiting a while! Thanks for your podcasts too, they're great. x

Alrighty. After letting the entire story sit with me for a few days, I'm finally leaving a review. Fantastic job, my darling. It's quite a feat to go into the Narnian universe and draw all the loose threads together and I think you did so very nicely. Really interesting concept turning your OCs into canon characters--it's actually hard not to think of the books without making the associations between Edina and the Emerald Witch and Caulitha and Ramandu's Daughter. Wow. I just don't know how you do it :)

You managed to tie things up in a neat little bow, and yet at the same time you've left plenty of questions. Tasty, my dear, you've done it again! Though I must admit, I was a little disappointed with Saedra's death. I was really looking forward to slipping on the stripped Freddy Krueger sweater, hopping in the story, and doing the deed myself. It would have added a whole new dimension to the story. Haha. I demand a re-write! ;)

To quote Janice, "Oh. My. God!"

Aravis and Cor - married - called it! And I love it! That image of Aravis with her arms around Cor was absolutely brilliant. I love their relationship and you do it marvelous justice! And when Aravis is lying beside the sleeping Cor. . . I can't tell you how much I loved the image of that scene, of Aravis reflecting on their whole journey together. It was perfect!

The explanations were incredible, but that's no surprise! The dark shape was Aslan! Saedra is the mother of Ramandu's daughter? Love it! And I loved Talia's line, "But Aslan did promise that his plan, when completed, would be displayed for all to see his wisdom."

And okay, the Lucian fan in me totally flared up when you called Ramandu's daugher 'Caspian's Queen'. Not cool! But we'll gloss over that, because the scene between Edina and Caulitha was so effing fabulous. And it's only more amazing because they didn't know each other in youth! One, the firstborn and legitimate heir to the throne, and the other a bastard daughter of treachery. Ohoo, I love it!

This was a fantastic story and a perfect sequel. Absolutely action-packed and always exciting! Best of all, it didn't *depend* on HKDS for its whole plot. This was something entirely separate and wonderful all on its own - and the changing POVs were perfect. So different from the only-Sae's POV in the original. Fabulous fabulous!

And I loved when that courtier was like, "Mice?"

Now hurry up and get to Nightmare!

Holy crap! I cannot BELIEVE this. Ingenious, absolutely ingenious.

Edina is the LGK. And *Caulitha* is Ramandu's daughter?! This is so wacky and twisted it practically reminds me of my own writing. I love it! I mean, look what the Pevensies have done with all their crazy sex and child-bearing! Given Narnia a host for a horrible enemy. It's like a vicious cycle! On the other hand, this means that once Rilian is born, the Pevensies are back into the bloodline of the Narnian crown. Which I love, of course.

This whole chapter had even more of a Last Battle-ish feel to it. The stars walking among the people? Awesome! And I love that it was Tavra and Alambil. Is this the last time they'll be together until they conjoin for Prince Caspian? Fabulous!

And Zahar! What a tear-wrenching transformation! I adored Aslan's line, "Why do you not blame the society, the evil people who treated you the way they did instead of blaming her that cares for you?" Frickin' awesome.

Actually, I was considering it, and Cor (who was raised in roughly the same conditions as Talia) acts the very same way when he falls in with the Narnians in Tashbaan. After enjoying the comfort and the attention for so long, he kind of forgets about Aravis, Bree, and Hwin, who are waiting for him. It's all the same! Loves!

OMFG!!

Edina is the LGK?! Holy pajamas!

That scene in the tent was ridiculous! I'm so happy that Edina couldn't muster the will to kill her beloved older sister. I can't believe she transformed into that snake? It means shes a goner for sure! *weeps* And then Zahar being such a cold bitch - I feel like deep down, she absolutely wanted to get up and hug her long-lost friend. Talia should NOT be feeling guilty at all. What Zahar's done in the name of revenge is far worse than leaving her behind. And where did Reine go in all the chaos? I lost him there, and it better be because somebody stabbed him.

Cedric's reappearance was hilarious. And he's *balding*? Lol! But it is kind of weird that he's putting the moves on Aravis, who's significantly *younger* than Lucy. Ick. No wonder Cor was mad. But how could he *not* say it back? I'm furious about that.

The last line was chilling. I love.

Go Aravis! You know Cor loves it when she's bossy. That landing scene was perfection. After Aravis declared herself and cowed those guards, I fully expected Aravis and Cor to hold hands or something, but this was better! He calls her magnificent! And that sexy breathing thing was so HOT. But the line was *so* Cor! Please, please let us get some action! Will they elope and come back to Archenland married?

I was going to go on about how surprised I was that Rahai was so clever, but then I remembered a certain chapter called How Rahai Made Herself Useful, so I guess it's not all too surprising. She's awesome! I have to give her credit there, her ideas were pretty smart! No wonder Edmund had a thing for her!

And okay, who says nothing when they see someone put stuff in a drink?! I'm starting think Priyah isn't half as smart as Rahai! Unless she *wanted* Daddy dead. . .

OMG, called it! It's the Marrian Felcar!

Poor Caulitha! Peter's first born! I'd beg you not to kill her off, but that seems pretty futile at this point. And since it was the poison reemerging, I love that Saedra died with Caulitha in her arms, and that Cauli will die a few hours later. It is *such* poetic justice, considering how she was born and they were both poisoned. And especially fitting because they had no relationship and no contact during Caulitha's life - and Saedra dies to save her! Is she wearing Saedra's necklace right now? Will Talia get it once she's gone?

And I love that people thought Priyah was a dude. Ha! I wonder if Peter would think that was kinda hot?
