Just...amazing. So poignant and beautiful and haunting and true. You so captured the essence of his torment and just magical imagery, really. Magical imagery and luscious detail.

I loved it.

At first, I didn't know who you were talking about until you mentioned the stone. I can really see how tortured he feels, and the compulsion to be with her, and yet- he hates to see her pain. I like this. Nicely done!

This /really/ captures the essence of Cadmus's despair. "He curses death for the hand that was dealt him, for this is not considered living," "He strokes her hair and she does not speak, her white eyes staring into a world that he has never seen"--these lines really stood out for me in particular, as far as setting the mood goes. I loved the repetition of the rope around the neck, too; you were right about this being horrifying. I love it (even though I'm getting goosebumps).

ohmygod fray, that is just too beautiful ;O
perfect imagery (intertwining branches, layer of rot (lol), twisted woods) and "He is surrounded by death." is just so blunt and abrupt and perfectly perfect.
well train's coming. bye.

Fray, you are the best at angst, and it kills me every time. This is so beautiful with the hopeless tragedy of it all, and I cannot thankyou enough for the dedication. It's so horribly haunting, but so beautiful and guh. Just guh.

I love you, in case you didn't already know that. Thank you so much.

My favourite line (because Good God Girl, you have the prettiest imagery and how on earth do you do it?): "He hides the rock under a loose floorboard, finding comfort in the empty spaces, like the huge gap that fills the earth between the sky and the ground, like the distances between this man and wife."

Wow. WOW. Sad and brilliant. Beautifully done. I've not read anything quite like it before.
