Ooh, I like this :) Susan is an awesome character, and you're right- there aren't enough fanfictions that even *mention* her. But I think you totally nailed her voice, and it makes me look forward to future books with her playing key roles. Keep writing!

I wonder if you meant "Though what I've faced still can't compare to some of what I saw in his eyes." rather than
"Though some of what I've faced still can't compare to what I saw in his eyes."
Or do you have some even better Susan fics in train? :)
