OhtarIstar666 2009-09-30 . chapter 1Tell peter if it makes him feel any better James and Lily stole my birthday too. (july 1st baby) but it is not a good reason to murder them for it |
PrincessPearl 2009-07-17 . chapter 1This was an amazing insight into Peter's character. I've always found him intriguing, but unfortunately, he's always ignored for other 'good' characters. Your writing style is fantastic, I love how you took one thing (his birthday) and fleshed it out to show us his emotions and it was very effective.
Terrific work, good job! |
HogwartsHussy 2008-10-06 . chapter 1Oddly, I wasn't actually impressed with this tale until the end. I felt it was too easy an excuse for Peter Pettigrew's Judas like betrayal.
But this got to me big time:
But he was still their friend, Peter would repeat to himself, every time it became unbearable to only know what happiness was when looking into James’s eyes. Peter wished he could find out for himself, too. He felt like a mere spectator of his life until the Dark Lord came to him.
He always, cowardly, blamed it on being born in July that he felt so much resentment and jealousy for his friends. He tried to convince himself this was one of the reasons why he had betrayed them.
It was much easier to blame fate. |
xoxcrescentmoonxox 2008-08-12 . chapter 1Aw. That was wonderful, it really was. I've only seen about three really good portrayals of Peter (yours included), and each time, I start hating him less and less, and get a little annoyed with the Marauders. The only thing that took me a minute to figure out was the quote at the end (I found this from the HPFC forum thread); it took me a minute to see how it related, but it worked really well, in a subtle way. Great job! |
 digigirl02 2008-07-26 . chapter 1How sad. |
Kore-of-Myth 2008-07-06 . chapter 1I enjoyed this oneshot very much - it's often hard for people to write Peter, and I think you did a great job.
Keep Writing! |
lyin' 2008-07-02 . chapter 1wow- making Bertha Jorkins Peter's cousin is a fantastic, brilliantly conceived detail that could actually match canon. this really struck me, first-off, since i have a summer birthday - July 8th- and i love it for the exact opposite reason, my entire family's in for the summer for the 4th, down to 2nd cousins, and so i'm surrounded with people. young-Peter is so human - pushed around by his cousin and then ignored by her - and the reasons for all of the Marauders not to come make such sense- James', particularly, is heartbreaking with the emptiness of his words. and the comparison to the Marauders' birthday in school is also dead-on and James forgetting to say happy birthday, too, is a heart-wrenching detail- and James being bored during his visit! such a little scene and such an in-character one, and it's fabulous. "James and Lily had stolen his birthday" is a great sentence, and Peter's reaction is entirely understandable and yet petty at the same time. really a very good Peter piece (and then an interesting parallel to Harry, also born in July but at the end- which sort of links into fate). really, a brilliant Peter piece- the very end-transition w/ looking at happiness in James' eyes somehow seemed like it needed a touch more build-up; but a GREAT Peter-James comparison throughout. really, excellent one-shot (and i'm not even usually big on reading Peter stories, at all!). :D keep writing! |
hondagirl 2008-07-02 . chapter 1You have managed to make me feel sad for Peter. And I liked how you showed his resentment towards Lily and james at the end, with their engagement overriding his birthday. It all leads up as to why he turned to the other side. Nicely done here Gaby. Nicely done. :)

msllamalover 2008-07-01 . chapter 1This was brilliant! There was something distinctly 'Peter' about it, the whole thing worked well. I loved how he used it as a reason for his betrayal. I think this works so well because everyone has felt second best on occasion, and this feeling is magnified in this. Nicely done and very Peter! |
Wotcher-Tonks 2008-07-01 . chapter 1Oh! Poor Peter. You captured him perfectly, and I didn't find any mistakes or anything. This was a painfully realistic view at resentment and betrayal through the eyes of Peter, who is a complex character. Many authors tend to gloss over him and pretend that he was never a Marauder, but he was. I loved this oneshot and I hope you will be writing more about this fascinating character. |
DarkTari 2008-07-01 . chapter 1Amazing really, you actually made me feel sorry for Peter! I was born in July, so I really do know how it's like when people ignore your birthday for some reason. It's really sad :x At least James, Sirius and Remus could've been a little less careless with Peter's big day; maybe that way things would've been a little diferent, if not hugely diferent.
Thank you for writing, I wish you only the best.

-Cullens-4EVR- 2008-07-01 . chapter 1There is only one thing I HATE about it... It actually makes me feel sorry for him. |
mustardgirl1128 2008-06-30 . chapter 1THis was AMAZING! The Bertha Jorkins bit was fantastic, and how James was bored when he agreed to spend the day at Peter's, and how "James and Lily had stolen his birthday", and hw the rest of the Marauders had birthdays that were hugely celebrated. Fantastic job! |
 Color in a Black-White World 2008-06-30 . chapter 1loved the story!

Bad Mum 2008-06-30 . chapter 1Now, you;ve almost made me feel sorry for Peter. it has to be hard to be the last-thought-of in a group of friends, even if no one means to treat you as second-best. Good job. |
