This is VERY intriguing. It's very nice to read a well-written, psychological and complex depiction of a scenario in which Harley is nothing to Joker but a gratification of his own ego. Too often Joker is cheapened to a mere shallow thug in such depictions, but you manage to preserve his sadism and seductiveness and complexity. When you take this perspective it is all too easy to simply say "he just uses her" when to someone who loves psychological warfare as much as the Joker, the game is everything and that's what he principally takes delight in. Harley might not know they're playing this game, but he does and that's everything.

The number one in Joker's world, even above Batman, is himself. I feel that Batman and Harley both serve as extensions of his ego - constant reminders of how wonderful he is. I think this is directly related to his obsession with the Dark Knight.

"Like a small child, enchanted with this twisted fairy-tale of a man."
This line for the win! It's beautiful.
