lovely. I really like Gideon and Marlene, although i envision her physicalities quite different. But this was ver sweet and it sort of hurt a litle...ha ha thats good. The part at the end...did you write that? If you did, it's beautiful.

Oh yes. This tale has all of the elements that attract me to the First War. Characters that are so young to be facing such questions despite the fact that they are growing old so fast. Loss of your friend, lover, collegue. Questioning whether you will be brave when it's your turn. And so universal and human...

i have never read a fic with gideon or marlene, but i love the way gideon's portrayed here. he seems reckless and headstrong...i can see the likeness with molly, and yet he's his own person. loved how marlene was so kick-**, and not a china doll. really, i was blown away. it was beautifully written. bravo.

So, I've long ago embarked on the Sirius/Marlene 'ship that populates many of the HP fanfics in portuguese (especially as a side-story to the Lily/James romance), and I was pleasantly surprised when recently authors who write in English started taking an interest in the minor mention-characters that came to exist with the Order of the Phoenix. Your portrayal of Marlene McKinnon is nearly exactly the opposite of what I've always had in mind for her. Your Marlene is petite, blonde, blue-eyed and muggle-born, and I've always seen her as rather tall, brunette, brown-eyed and pureblood. It's interesting to see how many different characters can be created around the same original idea--a witch named Marlene McKinnon who was part of the Order and whose entire family was killed by Death Eaters.

Anyway, I think that you're a wonderful storyteller. I could never write such a short piece and imprint so much emotion and life in it. With only a handful of words you told the story of Gideon and Marlene, the beginning, the middle and the end; their love, their games, their loss. And especially, his loss. Loved that he couldn't cry until he admitted that he loved her. You painted a beautiful, heartbreaking image of him staring at his own image and seeing Marlene smiling at him.

Oh, and another thing: The Beatles are made of love, and using their song was just wonderful.

I really enjoyed this. It was very well done and poetic and beautiful. I did catch one grammar mistake *had always took should actually be had always taken. other than that little mishap, you're spelling and grammar is absolutely flawless.

Found this on the "Prewett Watch" community. I'm a complete sucker for Gideon, for Marlene, and especially for them together! You have such a different picture of Marlene than I do, but your concept of the relationship between the two is something I can definitely identify with! It's just such a real feeling, the 'if we admit this is real, that's the first step towards running it into the ground' but in the end, you're both just losing out.

A wonderfully done, real-feeling depiction of a relationship near and dear to my heart. Excellent work! :)
