True Queen Of Chaos 2008-08-17 . chapter 1Slightly disturbing, but that doesnt take away the amazingness of this fic. I always pictured Dally's old man being meaner, but I really like your take on him too. Great oneshot.

TheGirlWithKaleidoscopeEyes 2008-07-21 . chapter 1Wow, Liz, that was amazing.
I loved how we saw a side to Dallas' father that we didn't know about in the book. Dallas assumes his father doesn't care about him, while his father just thinks he's giving him the freedom he wants. I really liked that.
And I loved the last line, with it double-meaning.
Good job! |
kimmerkay 2008-07-09 . chapter 1So happy to see another story from Liz! Where do you get your brilliant ideas? The story was great and got even better when I found out it was Dallas' dad. Puts Dallas' attitude into a new perspective for me. You always have great detail and stay so true to character. Even though Dally's dad wasn't truly a character in the book, you've made him real and I won't be able to read about Dally and his dad "not giving a hang about me" in the same way. And that last line - wow - great ending. Thanks! |
thelastOpenDoor 2008-07-05 . chapter 1Cool! This is a nice change from the usual stuff you find on this site. Awesome job! :D |
Keira 2008-07-05 . chapter 1 Just realized this one is a one-shot. It's a good one, too :) But, man, I wish I could see more of what Roy was thinking when it came to Dallas... *shakes head* |
Kiks AKA Half of Hairibo 2008-07-05 . chapter 1*Heart sinks* Oh, no... If he only knew what we know... Oh, Roy... He sounds like such a good guy, even if he is kind of a **, lol. No wonder Dallas never felt like his father cared, but... Wow. I really need to read more of this! Hope you're continuing it soon!

fanfar3 2008-07-05 . chapter 1I like this...what a surprise to find out "the kid" was Dallas.
I should have expected that...but didn't! |
Life's so bittersweet 2008-07-04 . chapter 1That was VERY good.
Wonderful job. |
mars on fire 2008-07-03 . chapter 1This is great. It's a totally different take on Dally's dad, which is nice. So many kids misread their parents intentions, and I really like the idea that Dallas is one of them.
His father's not a monster, not a bad guy, just a guy thinking he's doing the right thing by not crowding his son and stifling him like he was stifled. But Dallas reads it as neglect and not being cared about, which makes it so sad in the end. You wonder if he'd known - at this point, would he have even believed it.
I like the pride Dally's father has watching him in the bar. It's a really nice version of events where we see Dally doesn't know the score as well as he thinks he did. |
bread and coal 2008-07-03 . chapter 1absolutely brilliant. i love your oneshots, they always come from such an original perspective.
first i thought it was Steve's dad. then, for a brief moment, i thought it was Curtis Sr., because of the line about he and his kid being mistaken for brothers. i wasn't expecting Dallas' father.
Roy seems like a stupid kid to me. i know he's 'old' but he still seems to have a very teenage mentality about parenthood.
again, absolutely brilliant. nicely written, very real. well done. |
MBP 2008-07-03 . chapter 1Oh wow. Ok, so the last line gave me a chill, but the rest of it just made me so SAD... the way parents can screw up with even the best intentions is really just so scary... even though Roy clearly needed a little more of a clue. It certainly does paint a picture of why Dally turned out the way he did... forever young, after all. =( |
IAmOnlyMe 2008-07-02 . chapter 1This was amazing! I loved it.
It took me a bit to figure out whose dad it was, and you built the suspense wonderfully. It was a nice twist to have it be Dally's father, because I don't think anyone was expecting to see this take on Mr. Winston.
This was such a unique idea on what really went on in Dally's dad's head... I love all the little tells. Readers can tell Dally wouldn't mind his dad getting a little angry every once in a while, but it's not so obvious to Mr. Winston.
And that last line was chilling... a perfect way to tie the whole thing together and balance his own thoughts about getting old at the beginning. It's awful how right his dad was.
Amazing job! I'd love to see some more oneshots from you!

Tensleep 2008-07-02 . chapter 1You know, this is a great one. I really do like the POV you picked and the reactions he had, especially to his son. He wants to give his kid as much of the world as he could and freedom is a huge gift, even if ill recieved. I love how Roy didn't wat to be like his dad. I mean, my dad says that all the time, so it's great to see there are others out there. The internal monologue was also intriguing and I loved the hurt pride at the word "old". Growing old, as Keira would tell you, sucks.
What really hit me was the parrallel between Bob and Dallas that shone through here. Roy never told Dallas he'd done wrong, just like Bob's folks couldn't tell him no. And in the end it probably got them both killed. Excellent and original.
Keep up with the great work!

FlaminSquirrelz 2008-07-02 . chapter 1This is great writing. I've always wanted to see a story from the point of view of one of the greaser's parents - one that shows them in a different light - but I've never found one until now. I like how you've written Dallas's father having good intentions, but he and Dallas just interpret them differently. Roy thinks he's giving Dally freedom, not forcing him to be someone he's not, but Dal takes it to mean he just doesn't care ... That's rather tragic, actually.
And I love the ending sentence. Oh, the irony. |
