This is a really lovely story. I love the description of KR running to MD as a flash of color, a nice counterpoint to the seriousness of the situation.

You made Percy Crump actually interesting and, true to his period.

An excellent story that strikes a rather personal chord. An interesting look into a man. Who, however necessary, was but a bit player through out the series. And in every other piece of fiction where I've seen him mentioned at all.

Loved this story, told from the point of view of someone we rarely think of, other than when he is retrieving or enterring bodies. It was interesting that he was in such a rush to get the box going when the order was first placed. Then, over the years it became something more than just a 'burying box', it turned into a monument to the then legendary marshal.

The eye contact and communication between Percy and Matt near the end was very poignant, almost intimate, in that no one else was privy to their long ago agreement.

Indeed Percy--and all of Dodge--had been 'paid in full' by the 20 years of devotion and sacrifice that Matt Dillon had given. A very touching story. Much enjoyed.

i like it, kinda morbid in a way, but i still like it. i especially liked the part where the young matt went in and paid for his own funeral with confidence. very well written (as always).
