Sweet. Max was in character. She's stubborn but she knows when to listen to reason - eventually :) Spelling and grammar are pretty good. Few places you left out words, though reading back the only one I can find is 'providing (for) and protecting the flock'

Maybe the line 'But Max was fighting the most stubborn fighter she had ever faced: herself.' could be was battling the most stubborn? It just seemed repetitive to fight a fighter. Maybe it's just me.

And the meeting was just right. Both of them are tough. I liked Max's line about flood control - it's so her.

I really liked it. Keep writing - You do a good job.
