I think Shiki, mentally, is still very childlike, and I think that you captured that in the beginning.
Sometimes it's easy to forget that Ichijou is a vampire, so thank you for reminding me. :)
I don't think it got cheesy until the last three lines or so, but the rest wasn't cheesy.
