abuseNow that I've read your essay on the trio here, I understand this; I didn't quite before because I guess I'd never viewed it as a triangle (I know you wrote it as a non-slash one, but I've seen many people take that perspective with the idea ...*shudders*). Now that I understand where your perceptions are, it's much clearer to me.

As to Mary being IC, I think definitely so. And her and Watson's reactions to each other were not only perfect but adorable as well; the little humor at the end there was a very effective way to bring us back full circle from the emotional drain back onto the path to normality.

Definitely two very nice chapters that would slide into the end of DYIN and fit far better than what Doyle gave us. :)

abuseDear Mary - the way Watson describes her, sitting by the fire, speaks of great affection.

"Friendship is such a complicated thing" - especially when you have a complicated friend like Sherlock Holmes.

I loved this epilogue - a very charming insight into family life chez Watson. What comes across is how very much in love the pair clearly are, and how they have understanding, so important in any relationship.

A lovely end to a fraught situation - and yes, I thought it was totally IC :)

abuse...Well that certainly went a different way than I was expecting.

But it was interesting. :3

abuseWow, this is intense... really, fabulously done. Very IC, and Watson's frustrations are so understandable...I'm so glad Mary's there.

BTW I still haven't forgotten about this challenge! I already have my response entirely written out! I just... don't like it. So when I make it better I'll post it :)

abuseBeing as there isn't much of Mary, of course it's in character! This was a great epilogue! Thanks for sharing it. (And thanks for all the rest, too.) ;)

abuseIt's great! Watson falling back on the doctor part when he's had a shock.

abuseI like this version, too! A bit of tension, but not angst ridden. I like this a lot. Nice interpretation of Watson's reaction to DYIN, though personally, I might have throttled Holmes... xD I'm not as nice as Watson is, though, and you portray the kind doctor well!

abuseNice. I hope HOlmes remembers those words, "What of my health?" When his brain cells simmer down...this was a change of pace from the usual fanfic treatment, and really well done!

abuseI'm with you - I don't see a brawl or angst either. I think this conversation was pitched just right - Holmes being casual about his health, and Watson having to be the one looking out for him. I can see why Watson would be disturbed - okay, Holmes was pretending this time, but actually it must be a concern given the inherent dangers in his chosen profession.

“I am indeed fortunate to have such a friend as you. It is not every sailor who has a lighthouse consistently guiding him through the storms to his home port.” That is such a nice line and for me sums up the relationship perfectly - Watson strong and steady on the shore looking out for his storm-tossed friend. Top marks for wonderful imagery ;)

Excellent as ever. An impressive take on the aftermath of a very fraught situation. Loved it! :)

abuseThat was great. I love your interpretation. I think at this point Watson knew Holmes and his methods too well to start a real fight over the matter, but of course as a good friend he couldn't just say nothing.

abuseI thought this struck just the perfect tone.. and I loved Watson's response that he certainly would have figured out Holmes's illness was fake before much longer--and particularly where he started mentioning real symptoms such as bowel failure. Not to mention the point where he tells Holmes what to eat. I think this works better even, for their relationship, than straight angst, I liked how much of it was just under the surface. Also the smoking reference was good.

abuseFabulous. :)
I think their talk was very IC...I don't believe they would have fought outright, but I think Watson would have said very much what you had him say.

One little thing that I noticed... the line "I did not carry cigarettes, but handed him my pipe which he took with a grateful nod." You make it sound like Watson habitually didn't carry cigarettes, while we know he smoked them from HOUN.

But other than that, I really enjoyed it. :3

abuseO, I like this very much! Personally I think Watson /should/ have been angry; but, like you, I don't think he /would/. Though it would be satisfying to write (and I've done it) I don't think it would be quite realistic. This is, and so realistic it SHOULD have been in the Canon instead of that boring lecture on malingering.

Awesome job, specially for not having proofed it! I loved the ending especially - pure fluff without being OOC. Great stuff.
