Cocoa Butter 2009-12-12 . chapter 21 This is possibly one of the best fanfiction stories I have ever read, bar none. I truly loved this. |
 mitch365 2009-07-24 . chapter 21Hi
I'm a big fan of POTC but have never read any of the POTC fanfics until a little while ago, despite starting a POTC story over a year ago. This is the third one i've read, Story of a Sparrow's Vixen, and the Map being the two others. Although i couldn't finish The Map for reasons i will not go into now. Anyway i have to say that this is my very favourite POTC fanfic and i wish to congratulate you.
I am more of a fan romance fics, just because i love a bit of romance, and only started reading this because of writers block and i needed to some inspiration for my own POTC fic. I have been suffering from writers for several months and i recently lost all my work (as in ALL my work, school work as well as my fanfic work, which including several WIP stories i felt were going well, I must admit it could have been worse, i finished sixth form on the 20th June, my A-level exams included, and my hard-drive on my laptop stopped working just before the start of July. Since i have now got my laptop back i decided to start working on my stories again, my Harry Potter story starting well, my POTC not so well. In my story Jack crosses paths with a young orphan girl, aged 8. Although it may sound similar to yours it was very different (it's set after AWE) with Jack trying to get the Pearl back while trying to look after
Anyway although i know the reaction Jack has to finding this small girl but any time i have tried to write it it sounds terribly. So i searched inspiration and found this fic which is magnificent.
I have just realized that i have rambled on and do apologize if i bored you but i won't delete it because.
Anyway i love the story and i cannot wait to read the sequel(s), i must admit i am hoping for more than one and i look forward to reading anymore of yours i come across.
As a side note i must admit (being English and a Londoner) i like to think of Jack Sparrow of as also being English and a Londoner as in the films he also has at least slight English brogue in the films but i don't really care, anyway, i'm rambling again. Well Done brilliant story, loved Jade and your Jack can't wait to read the sequel(s) as i do hope you plan to carry on writing, i also look forward to reading more of your stories.
Oh and i read your profile earlier, not knowing what Oh My Goddess was but now i know i really want to watch it.
thanks, and i apologise to leaving such a long review in which most of it is rambling and the rest is praise, but mostly rambling but i hope the praise is good and shows how much i do like this story, anyway stopping now, bye, i look forward to review a story of yours again. |
Demimeg 2009-04-30 . chapter 1 Lol, I caught that quote! "How can anyone love a pebble in thier shoe." That's from that one cinderella movie with Drew Berrimore! Awsome. excellent fic by the way! ^.^ |
Kiki 2009-04-06 . chapter 21 Great story! Does this mean I can expect a Dead Man's Chest story soon? I hope so! |
Uldaren Bardaniel 2009-04-04 . chapter 21You're back! I can't believe it! This was a wonderful chapter on many counts: you brought the Commodore in, you put in bits of the Irish language, and I nearly cried at the ending, because I actually felt Jack's fear like it was my own, knowing sooner or later he and Jade would lose each other. You are an extremely good writer, and I'm certain others will agree with me when I say come back as soon as possible! Don't leave us hanging like this! Not hanging! Gak! :)
All the best, Bardaniel |
Blackgrrl92 2009-04-04 . chapter 21I wish I could go to Ireland, back to the roots. Oh well, maybe some day.
Great chapter, BTW. Please update soon. |
mypiratecat1 2009-04-04 . chapter 21First of all, and last of all, thank you so much for the very nice words to start out the chapter, my friend. I merely tried to help you out with some editing and by tacking on a word or two here and there... but this story is all yours, lass...
That this last chapter starts out with a quiet moment with Jack and Jade discussing the land where they both have roots and where Jack's heart lies, we know that it will not be anytime soon that they will be able to go there, for the Dauntless is hot on their stern... nonetheless, Jade's sadness that Jack is missing someone, there, dreadfully, is so sweet. That she spent her entire life longing for her father, only to see him longing for someone else, was so touching.
But what truly took my breath away was your description of James' thoughts... you write him so WELL. He is a tough one to write, and you are better at it than you might give yourself credit for. In delving into his feelings about Elizabath, Governor Swann, his peers and his enemies alike, you really were able to reveal a man who is wanting to recover some of the respect that he is swiftly losing through circumstance. Excellent!
The best part? The description of the hurricane's force, and the foundering of the Dauntless... oh MY! I was hanging on every word, there, and I almost found myself wide eyed with horror as she finally went to the depths.
Poor James is the lone survivor... he washes up on a beach, and is already drowning in guilt and anger. Is it any wonder he turns up later on at the Faithful Bride in such horrible condition? Oh my...
But the cliffhanger ending is what totally surprised me... from Jack's sweet thoughts about his lassie back in Ireland caring for him, and looking after him, to his realization that his debt to Davy Jones is due set me right on edge... what a way to end this story, my dear... with Jack knowing that he will always be on the run.
I'm stunned. I'm shaking my head. I'm giving you a standing ovation... well done, lass... well done... absolutely wonderful! |

bbkelbel717 2009-01-19 . chapter 20i got the chills reading this chapter! i really really really really hope the 4th movie will have something like this in it! |
mypiratecat1 2009-01-18 . chapter 20Oh, this was my kind of chapter! Not only because it delved into the mysterious heritage of our captain and his daughter, but because of the wonderful descriptions that you used!
From the cute moments of confusing Jack-speak (loved that!) that lead us to the Spanish gypsy marketplace, to the wonderful descriptions of what filled Jade's wondering eyes as she took it all in... well, I have to say that your powers of description brought the gathering in the clearing to life!
And I am so happy that you included the flamenco dancing! It is not well known that the Spanish gypsies are thought to have originated flamenco!
But my favorite moments of them all were the quiet ones... in which Jack watches as Jade flowers before him, discovering her ethnicity in a way that was never presented to him. He had to learn much of it on his own, and had to deal with prejudices for something that he might not have ever been fully in touch with. Such a gift he is giving his child... the gift of knowledge of something about herself that might have been denied by others.
Your gentle story weaving of these wonderful misunderstood people who can count a pirate captain as one of them was just wonderful... and your words have made my mouth water for cabbage rolls, and my nose wish to smell the wood smoke of the gypsy campfire.
How lucky our Jade is...and the moment that closed the chapter, in which Jade commemorates her father's birthday with a single, beautiful glass bead, rivaled any fiction author out there, fan or otherwise. |
Kiki 2009-01-17 . chapter 1 Wow! Just wow this story is amazing. Everyone is so in character which is hard to find in a story. And you've made Jade into a very plausible character. Like she could actually fit into the movie. Please update soon! |
 Snuffles-sweetie 2008-12-15 . chapter 19Naw. That was just so damn cute :) and i absolutley loved it :) |
mypiratecat1 2008-12-14 . chapter 19The chapter that you posted today was a lovely change of pace from the more intense ones the preceded it! I was really drawn into this one, as the picture of Jade sitting quietly, reading Macbeth would, of course, just make me smile.
That one would be surprised that a pirate captain would have such books in his cabin is to be expected, I guess, but Jack is no ordinary man. He is a self educated man who came into piracy later than most (thanks go that nasty, sawed-off little arse who shall remain nameless and who met his deserved fate). Some believe that Jack has had formal education, but just by listening to him use words that are completely out of context (especially in COTBP) tells us that he is highly intelligent, but has learned on his own.
And now he is doing his best to share his love of learning with his daughter. That Jade is feeling more confident and happy, and then reverts a bit after she breaks the vase is just so sad, but it happens with abused children. And with the hints of being neglected, abused and starved nearly to death himself, both physically and emotionally, makes Jack all the more human to me.
But oh, the wonderful fluff when they both suffer from colds. That Jack is so pleased and flattered (one of Jade's talents, as we know) that she would think of him as "big and strong" just made me laugh in several places! Jack is very slender, very slight, and not very TALL (I should know, having met Johnny Depp in person... ops, didn't mean to rub it in!). It was so cute when he was surprised, and then terribly pleased to be called big and strong that he couldn't get enough of it.
And his selfishness with his jar of honey was cute... he hates to share, and it's understandable! His thoughts about his gypsy mother as he prepares his throat remedy was bittersweet, and his attempts to talk with a congested head and his fractured, wobbly English was just the best! Loved it!
What a great, warm, Fuzzy read on what has turned into a very, very cold, windy afternoon... :) Can't wait for the next chapter! |
