Though I see how he can stand by and watch-- he knows not to underestimate Katara-- and IMO, he did right by letting her do what she wanted. I kinda see it as a downgrade of Zutara if he had interrupted, kinda like how Aang had pulled his guru-goody-goody wisdom out of his pants.

but nevertheless, I loved your rendition of it. The feelings that Zuko feel, how he doesn't understand them but to an extent-- awesome.

And the pier! The pier! Oh man, there should've been more Zutara bonding at the pier-- the HUG was just not enough. XDXD

Anwo, I gorged you on my ramblings so I shall say this -- BRAVO! MAOR. 8D

I too have spent time scouring this site for good Zutara fics... and I've got to say, out of the hundreds I've gone through, this is by FAR the best one I have ever read. So many fics focus on the climax, or the resolution, being the romance, the epic kiss (or more in some cases), but yours ended with that really was the element of their relationship: love. Not necessarily romantic yet, but I LOVE that Zuko recognizes that "in time in could be". Because that was the feeling that I was left with after this episode, even moreso after the finale. Their bond wasn't quite ready for a relationship, but I truly see them growing into it in a few years following the end.

I love how you paralleled them here, how distant yet how close she is at the end, and I love the sweetness of their embrace. Even Kataangers can't deny that something between these two changed enormously after TSR, to a huge degree. It wasn't just that she didn't hate him anymore, it was much more than that. Like she'd been holding back her affections (platonic) because she'd been so betrayed by him. After all the first thing she does when she forgives him is hug him. As if she couldn't wait for the negative feelings to go away or something.

Ahh I could ramble on all day about how much I love the Zutara bond and how perfectly you've captured their characters and their interaction, but I won't. This is too beautiful a piece to tarnish with any more of my words. I'd add it to my faves but I no longer have an account, so I'll just bookmark it instead. :) Thank you for this.

I think Zuko was actually about ten in those flashbacks; despite how she ended up, Azula couldn't have been that cruel at 6...she had to be at least 8...

I thought they would've had Zuko giving the classic you'd-be-no-better-than-him/what-would-your-mother-think speech; oh well...
