I've read your story a thousand times so I thought I'd finnally come here and tell you how hilarious it is. It honestly crackes me up every time I read it. Especially because what you describe is exactley what annoys me so much about (sadly) the majority of Titanic fanfiction.

Hilarious and so true. I love it when Mary-Sue writers get tkaen down a peg or two. And yes, poor Insert Officer's Name Here, he just can't get a break can he?
I wonder if any of this sue writers realizes that some of the characters they write about were real actual people (you know such as the Captain and Thomas Andrews)?

wow. lol. Those stories ARE really annoying. Especially when most of the officers in the movie Titanic actually existed. It would be like writing a fanfic where Zac Effron (gag) fall in love with you. And even though him and Vanessa Hudgens are going out (or used to) she loves you too! As a best friend of course. It's annoying, and it's like turning someone's identity into something else, because no one know's what they were like anymore because they're like long gone. (Poor Mr. Andrews. I was rather fond of him and Edward Smith, the captain. Have you noticed a lot of captains names end with Smith? More specifically John Smith? I didn't like Mr. Ismay though, in the movie. . .) That was awesome. :)
